Travel Tips for Reading

Walking along the river Thames

by Hobbes007

You can walk the Thames path, from Reading to either side, and take a train back from Pangbourne, Goring or Henley. A few very nice villages are situated on the bank of the river: Sonning, Mapledurham, Pangbourne, Goring.

Read "Three man in a boat" from Jerome K. Jerome to see that nothing much has changed over the last 130 years. The pub "The Swan" is still as described in the book at Pangbourne lock.

A place for a special treat

by KennetRose about London Street Brasserie

Top-notch town centre Brit-nouveau restaurant (though not in the same league as super-posh L'Ortolan in nearby Shinfield). Good food, informal atmosphere, and the Kennet-side terrace looks great for when it's not raining! A birthday treat for me tonight and I'm very pleased with it. I had the calves sweetbreads with bacon, followed by pan-fried sea bass with squid, aubergine and salsa verde, followed by chocolate mousse with clotted cream. All very good.

Reading, Salisbury, Bath, Frome and Exeter

"Reading: My Sister's wedding"

Attended my little sister's wedding. Everything was gorgeous! My brother-in-law to be took us along the Thames on his family's river boat telling us all about the areas close association with Kenneth Grahame's Wind in the Willows. Stayed at the George Hotel and that is where my member photo was taken.
Went to visit family with my cousin Jane who lives in Frome.
Wish I had gone without my teenage daughter.

Reading, a taste of England

by mauro_pd

I was there due to my job so I got not so much spare time to fill in :-) ... anyhow: Reading is not a GIGA-wonderful town but it is absolutely worthy to be visited.

A site which has really helped me planning the trip: www.reading.co.uk.
