This is a reasonably upmarket hotel in Reading centre, and despite it's slightly tarnished exterior the rooms have been recently refurbished to a decent standard. The hotel is primarily targetted at the business sector which means that there are excellent weekend deals to be done - although the hotel's own site doesn't appear to have a direct online booking system.
On my last stay (June 2006) I had booked through Expedia and gotten a good rate but on arrival the hotel denied all knowledge of the booking - producing the email confirmation however led to them honouring the booking at that rate, a minor hiccup.
Checking out sites for a revisit I notice that Expedia no longer seems to be offering the best rates, but try ClassicBritishHotels.com as they seem to have some good deals.
Unique Quality: If you can get the right rate this is a good hotel, in the heart of the town centre within easy walking of pretty much everywhere, and the train station about a 5 minute walk. Internet access is available in all rooms at a reasonable supplement. I seem to recall it being a decent, served, breakfast.
Directions: From the railway station head towards the Oracle Centre - Hotel is on RHS at start of Duke Street.
