Where??When??

by ajhollis

Where is this in Reading as I will be around there in JUne and would love to see the Swans. And also... will they be there at that time?

Are you asking about swan-upping? If so, look at this site for details:

Sadly, you won't be around Reading when it happens this year: it's in July. You'll certainly see swans though, lots of them.

Travel Tips for Reading

Rivers

by eho

There are two rivers running through Reading -- the Thames where there are lots of rowers and swans and the Kennet where it connects up to a canal. Walk along the River Kennet and you will find the Blake Lock Museum. In there I discovered displays of 17th-19th century rural British life.

Real Irish pub with real Irish people

by KennetRose about The Wishing Well.

A genuine Irish pub, by which I mean a pub which is run and patronised by genuine Irish people. Please note that it is *not* called 'O'Shaughnessy's' or 'Paddy Murphy's'. The exterior is also clear of advertising for stout, which is nevertheless available inside. Televised Gaelic football and hurling for those that like that sort of thing. When Ireland were eliminated from the World Cup by Spain, the clientele didn't rush out into the road smashing windows and attacking SEAT cars, the pub flew the Spanish flag outside alongside the Irish one for the remainder of the event. That says a lot about a pub and its customers, and that's why I'm mentioning it here!

Didcot GWS Railway Museum

by Geoff_Wright

The Great Western Society was started nearly 40 years ago by a group of schoolboys to preserve the spirit and style of the old Great Western Railway. Without the foresight of the founding members the unique collection of steam engines, signalling and the engine shed at Didcot Railway Centre would have disappeared forever.

The GWS has assembled a more representative collection of locomotives, rolling stock and other artefacts of the old Great Western Railway than exists of any other major railway. These achievements are the result of volunteer effort by their members - becoming a member means that you help in practical skilled or unskilled activity, as well as helping out on their Steam Days.

Reading UK

"READING"

This is my home, really its a nice place, its about 30 miles to the west of London, I just happened to end up here, but I live just by the river Thames, and only 5 mins from the vibrant town (in a lot of countries this would be called a city). I have no family here so I am only in transit but I have been living in or Around Reading for about 4 yrs now-basically its ok.

"Where I live"

I live very close to the famous River Thames, which is used by pleasure Boats, which you can see in the picture.I use the towpath to ride my push bike along, which is great for exercicse.
