Buses to Windsor.

by Johnire

I will be staying in the Ibis Hotel at Heathrow and am hoping to travel from there to Windsor on a Sunday afternoon at about 3 and come back at around 8.Are there any buses that would be able to do this?
Thanks

They have bus services to the main bus station where I suppose there will be connections to Windsor.

You need service 77 from the central bus station at Heathrow.

If you enter 77 into the 'service number' box on

http://www.firstgroup.com/ukbus/southeast/berkshirethames/home/index.php

you will get the timetable (click the pink day names to the right).

Last bus back on Sundays is 20:02, so you should be ok.

Travel Tips for Windsor

Victorian period in Windsor

by daryll

While your journey heading to the Castle, there is one corner street with people dressed up in Victorian costume, actually to event of appreciation of Victorian era. Ladies in big gown, and Gentleman's with their big hair do.

St. George's Chapel

by kathycollins

St George's Chapel is one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in England and is the spiritual home of the Order of the Garter, the senior order of British Chivalry established in 1348 by Edward III. Within the chapel are the tombs of ten sovereigns, including Henry VIII and his third wife Jane Seymour, and Charles I.

Architecture from yesteryear...

by Jenniflower

Throughout Windsor there is the wonderful tudor architecture, a personal favourite of mine!

That's something I just love about English towns... whether it be a small village like Biddenden, or a larger town like Stratford-upon-Avon... they all have such a magnificent touch to the past in their architecture, Tudor playing a large role in it.

The orignal tudor look was more yellowy (ochre) brown, with natural wood beams, not white and black, this building in the photo has been laterlly refurbished and spruced up.

I personally prefer the unspruced ones myself ;)

Heraldic Arms of Windsor and Maidenhead

by gordonilla

The shield combines the arms of the two merged boroughs. On the dexter (right) side are charges from the arms of New Windsor. White and green are the livery colours of the Tudor dynasty. The stag's head is for Windsor Great Forest. Between the stag's antlers are the Royal arms as used between 1405 and 1603. The sinister (left) side uses charges from the arms of Maidenhead. It shows the town's bridge over the River Thames. The two sides of the shield are dovetailed together to show the two boroughs united.

The crest represents Windsor Castle, with the royal lion's face above it, and the forests and parklands that surround it suggested by the oak branches.

The dexter supporter is a horse, suggesting the race course at Ascot. A horse was also one of the supporters of Berkshire County Council's arms. The sinister supporter is a swan for the River Thames and the parts of Buckinghamshire brought into the borough. Ancient crowns and acorns have been added to difference the supporters.
