Ornaments
by Elodie_Caroline
Anyone who really knows me, knows that I'm not a great lover of most ornaments, I prefer to pick my own, rather than have someone buy them for me.
Ever since I was seven years old, I have had a fascination with the orient, especially Japan; I am convinced that I used to live in the orient in a past life, somewhere around 1,000 years ago. So I collect glass trees, Buddhas, Ginger pots, cork sculptures in glass cases and Japanese and Chinese ornaments of people. I also have a wooden Confucius that an old lady gave me when I was in my early twenties.
I really love my set of twelve Japanese ladies; they are around 2 inches tall and all in their own little glass domes. I bought these off my mum for ten pounds, yes, I had to buy them from her! Any mother, worth her salt, would give something like this to their own child, wouldn't they, especially when she knows that her thing.
I also like the round glass paperweights.
My Books
by Elodie_Caroline
I love books! I have been an avid reader and collector of books since I was four years old. Many books have been lent out or given away over the years, but I don't do that any more, I keep them to myself, just like my CDs and DVDs.
One bookcase is full of fiction books; mostly Stephen King, Anne Rice and other such writers. The other is full of non-fiction; French language books, travel books, mostly about France, also ones on India and the Orient, plus I have Francesco's Venice and also Michael Palin's book about the Sahara. I have many books on philosophy, religions and historical subjects. I also have a large collection of 'writers' books, but have only ever read one of them. A lot of my non-fiction is shoved in with the fiction, as there was no room for them in the non-fiction bookcase.
Chris' little feathered friend
by Elodie_Caroline
Chris was out in the garden today and putting some new break pads onto our car. He heard some cheeping and looked down to see a baby Blue tit on the ground. He picked it up, walked across the garden and put it into the hedge and then carried on what he was doing. More cheeping, he looks down and the little bird is sat on his boot; he takes the little bird back to the hedge, carries on with the car, and the same thing happened again! The little birdie is sat back on his boot. So Chris picks it up and takes it around to the back garden and sits it on a branch of our small Magnolia tree.
Chris then comes indoors to tell me about this cute little Blue tit in the garden, so I have to take the camera out to it. The darling little thing was sat there cheeping. Chris put his finger there and the little birdie is sat on Chris' finger and looks like he's posing for photographs, bless him.
Afterwards, Chris put the little bird back onto the branch and he's there asleep for a little while. Around half an hour later, Chris goes back there and the Blue tit has gone. he probably went back home, thankfully, we don't have any Cats around here.
Stormchasing
by Elodie_Caroline
I have always been a great lover of thunderstorms; I think that they are beautiful and exciting. Anyway, it was around 12.30 a.m, and we were getting quite a storm coming in, but we never get the full benefit of thunderstorms, where we live right on top of a great big hill, the storms seem to stay down in the valleys for some reason. So I got Chris to drive us down to Christmas common, which is a couple of miles up the road from our house, so that we could look over the flatlands of Oxfordshire. The best thing was, I was still in my dressing gown and slippers, no knickers, no nothing. We were laughing all the time, whiilst we were in the car and saying, "What if the coppers stopped us and there's me sitting here in the car just in my pink dressing gown and slippers?"
"Oh, we'll just tell them that I've escaped from a loony bin and you've just picked me up!"
No, we never got stopped, we didn't even see anyone else on the road that night.
The bog old Conifer
by Elodie_Caroline
This big, bog old tree, is just down the path from my front garden. It's a bog old Conifer tree and it's about 30 ft tall. I took the picture of the moon one night, as it looked really big and bright, but it didn't come out too well on the camera, it just highlighted the tree more than anything, but I like it, it looks spooky...
This pic is dedicated to my good friend, VT member, Craic-Jen, who was formerly known as 'Conifer'.
