Budget accomodation in Cambridge is hard to find. Trumpington Road is close to Hills Road and there are some cheaper B&Bs. When you google "B&B Trumpington Road" you'll find several places. But if they are within your price range and if they have rooms available for next week, I don't know.
I've been to Cambridge several times, the first few times I actually stayed outside because I couldn't find any affordable place to stay. I also found out that booking very early is advisable.
Whenever I'm going now I always stay at Warkworth House, a wonderful B&B at - for Cambridge - a very reasonable tariff. You could walk to Hills Road from there, but it would take about 30 minutes. However, there are buses of course.

I've walked by this hotel - http://www.cityroomz.com/ - it's just outside the train station.I haven't stayed there, but heard it's cheap.

Then there is the youth hostel, which offers rooms at a good price, some of my family stayed there and liked it.However, it may be too noisy for adults.

Yes Cityroomz is OK and next door to the railway station which is about 5 minutes walk to Hills Road. There are some cheapish B&B's in the area but they are pretty shabby and really not that cheap and so I wouldn't recommend any of them.

If you go into www.booking.com and search your dates for Cambridge hotels you'll find Cityroomz for 665 Pounds at the moment - take it now!!!

Travel Tips for Cambridge

Wandering the streets of...

by richiecdisc

Wandering the streets of Cambridge is a must. It's a compact town with winding streets and beautiful buildings around every corner. Cambridge Real Ale festival in 1999 was great fun. Besides a great array of rare real ales, they had a cheese booth with award winning cheeses like blue leicester from around the country. It's generally held in May.

The Round Church

by CandS

The Round Church is right in the middle of town (or close enough) and is worth checking out quickly. It's a very old church (aparently the oldest round church in England?) and it's really nice inside. Although it's not huge, you can spend some time looking around inside...

Go Punting!!

by arv1

I was too scared to actually punt the boat...but it looked fun while everyone else i knew did it!! You see, I'm clumsy so I didn't want to risk falling in!! But the view from sitting down was really good too!! You get to see a lot of the Cambridge colleges, as Cambridge has a very student culture.

Punting is basically using a very large stick to maneouvre the gondola in the water. The procedure is to 'dig' the stick into the ground and push the gondola via that method, the angle you push it in is the opposite direction of movement....

I definately recommend it :) No gear is needed, they will provide everything!! Except good balance!! :)

St John's Church in Waterbeach

by christine.j

As it's often the case in small,English villages you can see very impressive churches there.

I liked visiting the St John's church in Waterbeach. It's a very old church, part of it is from early 13th century, but it was restored in 19th century. From this time there are some mosaic ornaments on the pulpit, really beautiful. They added to the colourdul impression of the inside of the church, together with flowers and paintings.

Sitting between the pipes of the organ we saw a special guest, raising its long ears to listen to the music? See for yourself, picture 3.

Special Toys and Lovely Pigs :)

by pocketpiglet about Touch Wood

Small shop selling specialized toys, not that many plastic articles in store! They have all sorts of toys in solid wood, metal and really cool terracota building blocks.

I'm in love with this gorgeous babe sitting pretty by the window :)

Shop opens Mon to Sat from 10 to 5:30.

Bad news everybody: as from July 06 this shop is no more! I cannot believe it, my favourite shop is gone.
