Punting on the canals
by extrajoce
Punting is one of the things to do for which Cambridge is the most famous. To watch or do, it's always a real laugh.
The waterway is behind the main colleges (St John's, Trinity, King's) - you can sit on the grass and watch or head out with friends and try your luck pushing the boat with the pole, but be warned: people regularly fall in the water!
Quiet Streets
by barryg23
Cambridge is a very popular destination for tourists and many of them wish to see the great colleges, libraries, etc. Despite all the history around you, try and remember the present too - students live and study in these colleges so if an area is marked private, do respect their privacy!
Wittgenstein's last propostion
by sourbugger
The greatest philosopher of the the 20th century is buried in a small graveyard in Cambridge.
In the same cemetry also stands the grave of GE Moore a leading exponent of Logical positivism. In the words of one website I saw :
"One (Wittgenstein's) is covered in flowers the other in birdshit. That's posterity for you". I just wanted to visit and make sure he wasn't capable of writing any more impenatrable philosophy books.
To find the grave from Trinity College, Cambridge, turn left onto Sydney Street; and follow Sydney Street as it turns into Huntingdon Road in the northeast, and you walked about a mile, then you come to St. Giles Cemetery, which is on the left hand side of the road.

fro and to London
by blueiceflying
From London to Cambridge by national rail:
1. Don't forget to aks for group tickets- 3 or 4 people for 2 tickets if you are travelling in a group of 3-4 persons. It will save you 16.5- 33 pounds which will be used to have a good lunch.
2. start and end your trip from the King's cross station, not the liverpool street station. It will save your time.
3. on the train back, some freshments will be sold, but the cappuccino is no good I have to say.
