GOOD!
The usual Travelodge Hotel. Clean, quiet, ensuite, TV, tea & coffee making facilitie's, free carpark. Extra's in this one were a Lounge and Lounge chair! Breakfast wasn't included in the price, you can buy if you wish. Located just off the A1307, so it was very easy to get onto the Motorway and head to London. There is a good restaurant next door. Couldn't complain, and would return. I

Hi all,
we´ll be arriving in Cambridge at about 8 a.m. on a friday.
As we are a group of 10, does anyone can give me a suggestion, where to grab a bite and a coffee ?
Thanks a lot !
Pat

The town centre is small and compact, so you could simply wander around for a short time and find a cafe that suits you - there are plenty of them.

You won't find a pub open at 8 am! Even Wetherspoons doesn't open until 9 (though they do do a very good breakfast).
There are plenty of cafes around but once again a lot don't open until 9. If you are arriving by train there are a couple of cafes on the corner of Hills Road and Station Road which should be open (just follow the road from the station until you hit the main drag and turn right). If arriving by bus at Drummer Street there used to be a great little cafe in the passageway between the bus station and St Andrews Street - if it's still there that will definitely be open.
Otherwise, as the previous poster says, the city centre is small enough to have a wander and find out what is open (and if the worst comes to the worst there's always Burger King).
Enjoy Cambridge.
Travel Tips for Cambridge
What a bloody cheek !
by sourbugger
If you mention the word 'Cambridge' virtually anywhere in the world people associate it with the world-class University of Cambridge. It is a byword for academic excellence, research and nobel prizes as small change.
I think it is therefore quite wonderfully cheeky that at Cambridge Railway station the signs have the line 'Home of Anglia Ruskin University' under them all. Anglia Ruskin, to the best of my knowledge, has never won a Nobel prize. I doubt it has ever one a prize. If you put Anglia Ruskin into google pictures, then one of the first returns is of a homeless man with 'alumni of Anglia Ruskin' underneath.
I don't even know where it is. So, don't be deceived - there really is only one proper university in this town !
Cambridge Streets

It's worth walking around the city a bit and looking around...you get to see a lot more that way. We loved the clean and cute streets of Cambridge...and there are some great little shops around too. :)
Trinity College Church
by extrajoce
Cambridge's architecture is the opportunity for many an original sight or picture, as shown here with the reflection of stained glass on the gate of Trinity Church. Do the obvious sites, but also have a look around at the details and beauty of other less famous places. In addition to this, many churches have choir rehearsals, as was the case here. This makes it even more special.
The original Addenbrookes
by sourbugger
Addenbrookes hospital still exists, but is now located in a concrete maze to the south of the city.
The Old, original Addenbrookes has been stunningly restored in the last few years, and now houses the management school of the university.
Although not open to the public, it makes a change from looking at the rest of the archicture of Cambridge, fine though that is.
The outpatients department is now Brown's Restaurant (see other tip).
There would seem to be a certain irony in the fact that a hospital is now filled with management types with their collections of acyronmns and clipboards - much like every other hospital in the country ! Here, they even got rid of the patients.
Cambridge Market
by jrs1234
Right in amongst the central shopping area, Cambridge Market is a nice place to go browsing - the open-air stalls sell a wide variety of things including flowers, fruit & vegetables, sweets, CDs, and clothes. A pleasant contrast to the surrounding chainstores, especially when the weather is nice.
The market is open every day, but on Sunday it has a different set of stallholders as it becomes a farmers' market with slightly shorter hours, from 10.30am until 4.30pm. During the rest of the week the market tends to start closing up after 5pm.
