The Haycock Hotel: 16th Century Coaching Inn.

by suvanki

My visit to this hotel was around 2002, when I attended a conference here and stayed overnight.

The hotel staff were friendly and efficient.
My room was very comfortable, although there was a strong smell of paint, as there was some re-decorating in progress.

To be continued ..........

My room had views over the 'Award winning ' Gardens.
Popular venue for Wedding Receptions etc.

Fairways Guest House: Happy to Have a Roof Over Our Heads!

by Bwana_Brown

Cambridge was the only place where we had some difficulty finding a place to stay - of course this was our own fault for not having any tourist literature or maps of the city! We stopped at an Esso station to gas the car up and my wife asked the clerk for some guidance. She did a good job, pointing us down a few streets, red lights and turns and very soon we came to Cherry Hinton Road, where we could see a few B&B located. On our second try, we found a place that had a room available for the night - yes!

The Fairways had a very big parking area out in back, and we were given the downstairs room fronting on the sidewalk (the one by the bushes!) - formerly the front room of the house. It had been completely done over and had an excellent ensuite bathroom and a very comfortable bed. We were back from our Indian meal by about 7:30 PM and did not last long into the night before we drifted off to sleep. There was no problem with noise at all, and this was a Saturday night! We had breakfast at 8:30 and were then off on our Sunday morning exploration of Cambridge. The price for this guest house was 60 pounds (US$110), as compared to 45 pounds in the three B&Bs that we used. They also charged a 4% fee for using a credit card (they warned us) whereas the B&Bs did not charge the extra fee.

I stayed in a friend's house. I know this isn't very helpful but I'm sure there're plenty of B&Bs around. Shouldn't be a problem to look for one.

Travel Inns - the nearest is Huntingdon, 20 minutes west of Cambridge on the A14/A1 junction. Ideal for visiting Cambridge, St. Ives, Huntingdon, Peterborough and so on.

Travel Lodges - there are loads along the A14 and one at Ely, which is a great little city in it's own right.

The two chains vary slightly in price, but you can get a family room (2 Adults + 2 small kids or one large kid) for less than 50 pounds for the room per night.

Large, good standard rooms, all with TV, Bath/WC, Sofa, Tea/Coffee making. Almost all are located next to a pub/restaurant, often with a McDonalds pretty close by.

Cambridge Garden House Moat House
Expensive hotel but high in quality.

160 pounds for a double room, bed and breakfast (weekend rate). Cheaper rates sometimes available at weekends, especially late availability.

Lovely location - some bedrooms, the garden and the restaurant overlook the river as it flows to Grantchester. Handy for all Cambridge attractions.

Holiday Inn: Holiday Inn

by steventilly

Over 120 pounds for a double room per night at weekends, more during the week. Newspaper offers can get you 2 nights for that price at weekends. If you see these offers, snap them up! Breakfast 11 pounds.

(Pic from Holiday Inn brochure)

Very good standard of hotel close to the city centre.

For the students and those who are on an extra-lean budget, may I humbly recommend an equally great place. Yes, it's none other than the world-famous Y.M.C.A. Hostel.

We stayed at The Conifers Bed & Breakfast place, just a short walk away from the historic city center. Very good... er... I mean, this B&B joint.

We paid £48.00 per night for a TWIN room (which comes with an attached bathroom).

A good continental breakfast is provided during your stay here. You can also use their galley kitchen which comes with a microwave and refrigerator,

by Pavlik_NL

A wonderful place to stay at the border of the innertown of Cambridge is: Regency Guest House, 7th Regent Terrace, CB2 1AA CAMBRIDGE, tel.0860515464 or 022362655. In front a wide playingfield, where students plays cricket or other games. The town is just around the corner and they serve a great breakfast.
