Travel Tips for Peterborough

Airforce war memorials

by mccrorj

The county around peterborough is scattered with ex-WWII airfileds many of which are marked with memorials to the squadrons who flew from them. This stretches all the way down the the US war cemetry just north of Cambridge. If you have you own transport and are interested in the second world war there are many memorials spread around the area which could add up to an interesting day out. The nearest to peterborough lies on the old A1 road between the villages of stilton and sawtry.

FLAG FEN

by BerniShand

Flag Fen was a settlement in the Bronze Age, approximately 3,000 years ago
here there are well preserved remains and some reconstructions of houses
thereis a museum displaying weapons artefacts and jewellery found here
there are also rare breeds of animals to see

The site is open daily except 24 December to 2 January
there is disabled access
information sheets are available in several languages

WELL, WHAT CAN I SAY, IT`S HOME

by BerniShand

Peterborough is where I live so untill some friends came to visit last year I had never thought of it as a tourist place....just as home... so it was nice to see it through their eyes

We have sone fine architecture, a lovely park and open spaces, a bronze age settlement and various other places to visit a short distance away.

We even have our own hermit who lives in a bus shelter, not many places can match THAT!
