Travel Tips for Chester

walk the canal

by Jonathan_C

A walk along the canal is the opposite of walking the walls in almost every way: it's low instead of high, watery instead of airy, lonely instead of crowded. After a busy day of touristing, the canal path provides some much needed solitude.

great for drinks with the girls (or boys!)

by clareabee about Slug & Lettuce

Don't let the name put you off it is part of a chain and considering this (I am not a fan of them!) it is pretty good.

The place is quite big but don't even try and get in when Chester Races are on as it is packed to the rafters (infact I would stear clear of Chester full stop if the races are on!)

Decent bar area and plenty of places to sit. Smoked Haddock fishcake salad - lovely little bit naughty but have the salad to keep that halo in place!

Rhino mania

by muguruki

In the last few months Chester is plagued by an infestation of rhinos all over the city.

62 of them have appeared in different designs created by artists as well as school kids.

Here is one of a few that are in front of the town hall.

Ye Old King's Head

by sabsi

A beautiful Georgian house from 1715 which used to be the home of the Mayor of Chester - Randle Holmes I - and which is now turned into a pub.

The pub was named after Charles I who stayed next door once in 1645.

By The River Dee

by Balam

If the weather allows it the River side is a lovely place to sit and watch the world go by. There is a great Ice Cream Kiosk as well as a Pub Restaurant, along the river there are plenty of benches to sit on where you can eat your packed lunch as we did.
Various boats leave from here on short cruises up the River.
