More about Chester Stone Villa
if only i'd stayed
This ,unfortunately, is not a review of our stay at this hotel because we did not actually stay here. This is a review of our experience with this establishment.
My wife and I arrived at Chester Stone Villa with booking email in hand. We had booked through visitchester.com. A very nice woman who was looking after front of house told us that the B+B was fully booked. She also said that they had never received the booking from visitchester.com.
As the proprietor's were away on holiday the woman on the front desk phoned their daughter for advice. The owner's daughter advised her to find us alternative accommodation and that Chester Stone Villa would look after the charges due to our being inconvenienced.
We thought this went a long way towards cooling the situation, especially after our long drive and ferry trip from Ireland.
We booked in to The Chester Court Hotel and were told by the desk clerk that the Chester Stone Villa was looking after the charges.
This turned out to be untrue. The proprietor of Chester Stone Villa arrived back from holiday and refused to cover the charges from the Chester Court Hotel and suggested to the booking agency that we had run out on the bill (even though they had my credit card details)!
The booking agency is now chasing me for funds I do not owe.
The dispute seems to be between visitchester.com and Chester Stone Villa. Apparently neither party wants to own up to their seperate agreements. That, coupled with the most disagreeable accommodations ever, made our visit to Chester a disaster!
I would like to add that tripadvisor member comments on Chester Court Hotel were very accurate from what we experienced. We cannot speak to those of Chester Stone Villa, except to say that their customer service has been abysmal in light of their going back on their agreement to find us comparable lodging.
I stayed at the Chester Stone Villa for a weekend (2 nights) with three girlfriends. The hotel was fabulous, we arrived early and one of the rooms was already available and we only had to wait a short time for the other. The staff were wonderful and recommended places to eat etc. The rooms were beautiful and had everything you could have wanted. There was a small fridge which was great for the wine, even a corkscrew and wine glasses were provided. The beds were comfortable and it was very clean. The breakfasts were the highlight of the stay, porridge to die for and delicious cooked breakfast ,cooked exactly how you wanted. Chester was lovely and we were very lucky with the weather, it was cold but beautiful and sunny. The hotel is about 10 minutes walk into the city centre and I highly recommend walking around the city wall. We ate at The Living Room which was very upmarket and Sergio's Italian just opposite, both meals were excellent.
Absolutely lovely B&B
We stayed at the Chester Stone Villa for one night having spent the day in North Wales. We chose it having read the excellent reviews on its website and when we arrived it lived up to our expectations. There was ample parking and we received a warm welcome. The room was really comfortable, clean and decorated to a high standard. The ensuite was also clean and contained a nice selection of products; shampoo, shower gel, hand & body lotion... The breakfast in the morning was delicious with a great selection of fruits, cereals and the obligatory cooked breakfast.
We walked into Chester city centre during the evening to get something to eat and found a nice restaurant called G.A.L. in Frodsham Street (about a 20 minute walk).
We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay and would definitely stay here again.
We can't wait to return!!
The Chester Stone Villa was the perfect place for us to stay for our one night in Chester. We were greeted at the door as soon as we arrived, and the fact that that staff new our names made it a very personal stay form the minute we arrived! The room was excellent with a TV, DVD Player, tea/coffee making facilities & fridge. The bed was very comfortable & the bathroom was immaculate. And as for the breakfast, well there was SO much choice! Cereal, fresh juices, fresh fruit, toast, tea, coffee and then a hot cooked breakfast! It set us up for the day!
The hotel is about a 15 minute walk from the centre of Chester which was close enough in, but far enough out to not be in the centre of it all! There is a nice bar over the road & a chinese restaurant next door which was also excellent!
1st class service & a pleasure to stay! We'll definately be back in the future!
Would stop here again
Me and my husband spent 2 ngts in this hotel, and was not disappointed. It is in Hoole which is a nice village a few pubs and local shops. It is about 15min walk into Chester. The room we stayed in was the executive room which had a double and single bed in, a flat screen tv with dvd player. A nice touch was the mini fridge with 2 bottles of flavoured water and fresh milk in a jug. The room has tea/coffee making facilities. Breakfast nice had a menu to choose from, on top of a selection of fresh fruit and cereals. Never visited Chester and would go again, its a shoppers paradise, with lots of little cafes and bars to choose from. Had a lovely meal in Zizzis (an Italian restuarant), not bang in town centre but only a couple of mins walk away, ask a local I'm sure they would direct you, well worth the visit.
Would stop at Stone Villa again, got to bring our son however next time as he wants to go to Chester Zoo. x
Nice, but didn't think it was up to the other reviews
Having read all the glowing reviews, I booked a weekend here with my partner. I must admit that we went with high expectations.
The location is good, about a ten minute walk to the centre, but with local shops, banks etc. The car park seemed quite secure and was well maintained.
On arriving we were greeted warmly and shown to our roon (number 3). The room was fine, there were a couple of quality streets in a dish and some flavoured water in the fridge, which was a nice touch.
The decor did look a bit dated and the wall paper was peeling off in the bathroom, but it was clean. There was no shower curtain, just a screen and the spray went everywhere. We resorted to baths.
The bed was uncomfortable and the throw over it was quite hairy!
Breakfast was good, with a wide selection and nice veggie ssausages. Lots of the food (jam, yoghurt, potato cakes) was home made and was excellent.
The owners were very friendly and helpful.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay, but I don't understand how it' has been reviewed quite so favourably by everyone. I thought it was good, but nothing special.
My boyfriend and I stayed for one night at this B&B in Chester. I did quite a bit of research before booking to find one that looked nice, and this one lived up to expectations.
It is just a few minutes walk from the central train station, but had ample parking outside. The exterior is beautiful - flowers, a water fountain - we only wished we had been there in summer when all the flowers would have been in bloom.
Our check-in was quick and well organized. The room was a reasonable size (though I admit smaller than I expected) and we really appreciated the careful consideration of guests' needs - a small fridge, already stocked with water and milk for tea, iron and ironing board, extra pillows, fully stocked bathroom etc.
I had chosen the B&B mostly based on the beautiful sounding breakfasts, which according to the website run from 7am. When I mentioned to the manageress that we would need to leave shortly after 7, she said that breakfast is not served until 8 on Saturdays. I was most disappointed, although she did say she would speak to the night staff about starting it early but doubted it, or otherwise would provide us with a continental breakfast. In the end, I could not bear to miss out on the breakfast so we changed our plans. It was definitely worth it - such a varied and substantial breakfast I have not had in a long time. Drambuie porridge recommended!!
The surrounding neighbourhood has everything you could need - we enjoyed a walk around the local shops, and found the local pub to be busy and bustling. A taxi number was provided and it was a quick jaunt into Chester itself - it only cost a few pounds. Chester itself is so beautiful - we both wished we had more time there to look around, and there is a fantastic choice of restaurants and pubs (we ate at Piccolinos and despite being extremely noisy, enjoyed it very very much)
Other than perhaps advertising a bit better the times of their breakfast, I did not have any problems with this B&B and don't hesitate to recommend it!
Managed to escape with my partner for a weekend to Chester. Friends had previously recommended Stone Villa and we took their advise and booked. What can I say? we had a truly lovely weekend. Stone Villa was easy to find and was perfect for our needs. Our room was spacious, comfortable and stylish. The owners "Betty and Ian" were helpful and friendly, providing us with all the information we needed to take the "chance element" out of our weekend. Although we stayed only two nights it could easily have been more. If I had to make one critisism? it would simply be that the breakfasts were to Good :-) and perhaps I've gained a pound or two!!
We stayed at this hotel for one night as we were going to a wedding at Chester Zoo, which is a couple of miles away.
The Hotel staff were very friendly and made you feel welcome and at home. The room was comfortable and well equipped with a large bathroom.
The english breakfast was excellent and probably the best I have ever had, and I have had a few, all in all a fantastic little hotel.
Excellent in all areas. Very friendly host, Betty. Comfortable room, fantastic options for breakfast, quiet location and easy walk into the city centre.
