Wonderful Weekend
by TripAdvisor Member Sandyboy
The Grosvenor, Pulford, offered a great location for a weekend spent sightseeing and visiting family in Cheshire and Wales. The Reception was friendly and welcoming and we received good service. The bedroom was a little on the small side but well stocked and immaculate, as was the bathroom. The breakfast buffet was super with a lovely atmosphere, a good selection was offered and the staff were excellent.
We did not get the chance to swim or use the gym but these areas again looked really good, the pool looked really tempting.
Unfortunately the hotel (fire) doors do bang at night and you can hear people in the corridors. That said we can't wait to go back and take advantage of the pool, the beautiful conservatory with and courtyard.
Good Service

We have just spent 3 days over the Easter period at the Grosvenor Pulford Hotel with some friends that had arranged an extremely cheap price of £76 per night bed and breakfast for the room – but it was a very small room (number 21). It was probably one of the smallest double rooms in a hotel that we have ever stayed in which had no draw storage space except one draw in ‘dressing table’. Otherwise the hotel was good and especially the service which was excellent given the numbers of guests staying at Easter. In particular the restaurant staff coped very well at breakfast time. Also, the restaurant served a carvery on Easter Sunday which was looking totally unappetising by the time we ate at 8.30 pm. I asked to see the chef who agreed and arranged for both fresh meat and vegetables to be prepared. The hotel also has a lovely swimming pool and is currently adding spa treatment rooms which should be ready later this summer.
The Grosevenor Pulford Hotel is a good hotel for anyone who wants a reliable base just outside Chester.
Almost Faultless

We stopped at the Grosvenor Pulford in February for a weekend break, while visiting the nearby Chester Zoo.
Unsure of the exact location, while in Chester City Centre (which is a delight, by the way) I popped in to the Grosvenor Hotel there, and they gave me directions. It proved to be a 5-10 minute drive from the Centre, and was quite easy to find.
It looked lovely from the outside, tastefully lit up, with a big car park. In the daytime we saw that it had plenty of garden around it and would be even better in the Summer. It was welcoming on going to Reception, and staff were friendly throughout.
The room was a nice size, with the usual items you would expect. The only fault with it, and in fact the only fault in our entire stay, was that the bathroom door wouldn't shut properly. There was a lovely view from the room onto a courtyard that featured a working fountain!
There was a Resturant and a Bar Area, both of which you could get an evening meal in. The Restaurant (Ciros) was a little expensive for us, so we opted for a Barmeal, which took a little while to arrive, but was good.
The breakfast in the morning was either continental delivered free to your room, or 'Help-Your-Self' in the restaurant. I opted for the latter and had a lovely cooked English Brekky.
Another nice feature was free use of the internet-enabled computer in the reception area.
All in all an excellent stay, at a lovely hotel, which was ideal for anyone who wanted a base to visit the Zoo or City Centre.

We stayed 2 nights in a deluxe room over new year. We were very impressed with the staff and the 'nothing is too much trouble' approach. facilities are second to none and the pool is perfect for leisure swimming.
Mix up with the bill was soon sorted and didnt dampen our experience.
Different but good

I stayed here for two nights in January and chose this hotel because of the excellent reviews on trip advisor. I had booked a feature bedroom at a good rate £110 including breakfast
It is quite a way out of Chester and because of road works on the main way in, it took me over 45 minutes to reach the hotel from the city centre! I was checked in quickly and allocated room 78. I think this is the room which is shown on the website as being the bridal suite! The room is ok - very chintzy and blue!. The bathroom is fabulous - huge (as large as the bedroom), with a roll topped bath, separate shower etc. I felt the room was let down a little by the small very old fashioned TV.
My friend was also staying and had booked a executive room for £90 including breakfast. Her room (77) was fabulous - bathroom was small but the room itself was huge - again chintzy but very well done - looked recently refurbished.
We had dinner in the restaurant which was good and I took advantage of the room service breakfast which arrived on time and was great.
To summarise I think this is a great hotel but it will not appeal to people who like modern rooms and facilities. The rooms are of an excellent quality but are designed in an old fashioned style so if you like your minimalistic rooms, with Plasma TVs, mini bars and muted colours - stay clear!
Not that impressed

Arrived for a 2 night stay, check in was straightforward and receptionist informative and friendly. Asked if we would like papers in the morning and we did (although strangely you have to collect from reception they dont deliver to your room). The next morning we went to collect paper to be told that it hadnt been ordered!
The first night we ate in Nelsons bar, the food is presented nicely but we were disappointed with the quality. I ordered a ploughmans which consisted of 2 small pieces of cheese, 2 pieces of bread and a handful of salad leaves (which were inedible due to that fact they were sodden with dressing). My husband ordered mixed grill that was delivered on a sizzling skillet so unfortunately most of the meat was overcooked and in fact burnt on one side. We spoke to someone about this all they could do was shrug shoulders and offer a free drink. Several times that evening we were given dirty glasses when served drinks and when we complained to the bar staff they would just roll their eyes and give you another glass for you to pour your drink into. The staff are very young and obviously have no experience in catering. Nobody seems to know what they are doing and there are several health hygiene issues.
We chose this hotel for its spa facilities and restaurant, but neither were open due to refurbishment something which we were not informed of on booking. Or indeed told on arrival, you have to read it for youself on posters on walls
Great!!

Stayed one night, excellent room, excellent room service, helpful staff, fantastic location. Restaurant was busy and had a bit of mix up with tables but staff sorted it straight away and went out of there way to put it right.
Very Good

Just stayed for two nights April 2007 - paid £80 a night via internet - on arrival reception upgraded us to a suite on two floors very clean - biggest bathroom I've ever had in a hotel - staff good, room clean and well equiped. Two evening meals in the hotel - no complaints. Good location 5 mins drive to a park and ride into city centre. Would recommend and stay again - some building work going on but not a problem - i think you would have to walk around the outside to get to leisure facilities, but that shouldn't be a problem
