Travelodge, Warrington Road, Chester: Let down by some minor faults

This was our first time staying at this particular Travelodge which is easily found next to the Toby Carvery on the A56 just off junction 12 of the M53. It is located in the up market area of Hoole just outside Chester. There is a large car park though this can become busy at times due to the restaurant next door. The staff were polite and helpful. We were given room 11 which is situated at the back of the building, it was clean & tidy. The room was of a decent size, with high ceilings, it was in good decorative order, clean and tidy. There was a wardrobe and 5 drawers in different units but only 1 chair which meant one person had to sit on the bed. The was a fairly new flat screen television of a reasonable size. The was the usual kettle and facilities for making hot drinks. The ensuite was good and came with a bath & shower though I could not find a switch for the lights around the mirror and assumed the bulbs had burnt out. The room could be described as tired which was not a problem but it was let down by a number of minor faults, which could have been easily fixed with a small amount of effort. The window in the room was wooden framed and the handles to open the them were falling off. One of the opening windows needed realigning because you could view the sky through the gap, which conveniently let in the noise from the restaurant next door when bins were moved around; it also provide an early morning alarm call when delivery lorries arrived. To supplement this the bed made loud creaking noises every time you moved. There is a bus stop just outside with an half hourly service to the centre of Chester. On the other side of the road the return buses go to Warrington & Runcorn. We did manage to obtain an excellent deal when we booked this hotel of £10 a night.

Ye Olde Kings Head: Great Place

Built in 1622 Ye Olde Kings Head is a traditional timber framed black and white Tudor style building which retains the character of old Chester.
Some of the many features of this historic building are the Elizabethan fireplaces and a particular timber beam taken from one of Admiral Lord Nelson's ships that sank off the coast of Blackpool, 2 Swords and a pair of old shoes were found under the floor boards of this old pub, said to be Haunted by the Ghosts of a woman and a young child among others. Certainly worth a visit for the architecture and for the ghost hunters among us.

We stayed at Ye Ole Kings Head for only one night but i wish it had been more. The pub is a fantastic timber framed building that dates from 1622. It has recently been taken over by new owners who are doing their best to make the most of this great place.
We stayed in room 1 called Jaspers Room and it had a fantastic four poster bed and some really great old oak beams. We had tea and Coffee making facilities and an ensuite Bathroom.

We had a great day and night looking around Chester and ended up back at the Olde Kings Head were there was live music. the food although we did not try it on this visit is said to be fantastic and when we called in during the day it certainly smelt good.
I would really love to stay here again as it is a fantastic building and has some lovely period features. Although it has had some bad reviews under previous owners the new owners are really making a go of it and are doing their best to make every visitor have a good time.
