What a stupid place to put a bloody great canal
"Regular trains to Manchester"
I work in Warrington quite often and I occasionally have a pint or two in some of its numerous pubs and clubs but if there is anything else going on I've never found it and I’ve never really worked out what it’s for. I guess it’s most important role is as a sort of ‘buffer zone’ keeping the Mancunians and the Scousers apart, it certainly has the sort of traffic jams that important places tend to have.
It’s got a decent Rugby league side, a reasonable shopping centre and some interesting industrial architecture, in particular the weird and wonderful bridges that cross the Manchester Ship Canal. It has an Ikea and two railway stations but perhaps it’s biggest attraction by far is that it’s not Runcorn.
For me Warrington’s greatest attraction (and the raison d’être for this page) is undoubtedly the Cantilever Chippy (pictured) which fries arguably the best fish and chips in the UK.
