B.O.S.S.S. (Borough of Stockton Swimming Scheme) - To join, you must already be a member of a base swimming club e.g. Stockton, Billingham or Thornaby Amateur Swimming Clubs. The aim of the club is to provide a gateway to higher levels of competition and training facilities for active members of the swimming clubs in the Borough of Stockton.
On part of the site now occupied by Boots stood former 59, High Street, where John Walker had his Chymist and Druggist shop, just over the road from where he was born. In 1827, he invented the world’s first friction matches.
He refused to patent any of his inventions as he believed his work was for the better of mankind.
