Driftwood Cottage: Splendid Views
Driftwood Cottage is situated just across the road from the beach at Widemouth Bay (pronounced Wid-muth), a short 10 minute drive from the centre of Bude. Driftwood is among other cottages and holiday lets owned by the family at Quinceborough Farm. On arrival, we called at the farm to pick up the keys. We received a very warm welcome by Pat Rowlands and son Alistair who are very amenable people who obviously love their job. There are facilities on the farm such as outdoor heated swimming pool, games room, tennis court and farmyard animals who are fed each morning at 9.30am - children are invited along to take part. Tennants of the Cottages have full use of the facilities at the farm. I digress... Driftwood is about half a mile away from the farm. It is part of a converted coachhouse which belonged the the adjacent Squires house. There is ample parking in the courtyard, a private walled garden complete with brick barbeque and Victorian Summerhouse. The views from the Garden are outstanding, fields leading down to the sea and cliffs in the distance.
The Cottage itself is very spacious. A large lounge with sea views, flat screen tv, DVD, games and books. The bedrooms are a nice size, both leading to the kitchen area where there is a dining area with wall mounted TV. The well equipped kitchen has a dishwasher, washing machine, cooker and convection oven and fridge freezer. Here we found some delicious home made buttered scones and a jug of milk in the fridge... just what we needed after a drive down from Wales. The Bath and toilet are separate. The spa bath was a nice touch with a nice powerful electric shower over it. Towels, bedlinen and a hairdryer were provided. I found the owners actually thought of everything. A closet in the hall was a bit like an aladins cave, here we found buckets, spades, bodyboard, windbreak and the usual ironing board, hoover, hot water bottles and pegs for the line out the back. The only downside was that the storage heaters took a while to come on but when they did, they were on for ages after they were turned off. (I have no experience with this type of heating).
We had a really comfy stay here. I would love to return to Driftwood and would definitely recommend it to others.
The Summerhouse and garden were great as were the sea views.

John Fowler Widemouth Bay Holiday Park: Widemouth Bay Static Caravan Site
I'll start with the positives:
Clean, well kept, near the beach, nice statics, 8 berth had plenty of room for all 8 of us, staff were pleasent.
the manager. Utter tit. We had booked well in advance but when we arrived we had trouble getting our caravan because 6 of the 8 were boys. Apparently this was enough to qualify us as a 'gang of lads'. Only after much promising to be good could we get our key!
Other than that the place was great.
(prices not included as was part of an offer)
