The Willow Figures
by sandysmith
Just the other side of the road from the gardens is Newquay's boating lake with its unusual public art feature.
These 3 willow figures, created by Serena de la Hey, a nationally renowned sculptress., stand on an island in the lake. The island is alos protected from erosion by more willow to enhance this feature.
The same sculpttress created the M5 Willow Man which you may have seen on your travels.
They were craned into their home here on the boating lake on 28th May 2002.

6 girls and 9 lads take a trip down to Newquay for a week of fun and frollocks in the sun and sand!! Russell, Owain, Michelle, Claire, Vicki, and I can't remember the other girls names so we'll call them Kylie, Shania and Brittney, all stayed in a hotel in Newquay. While me, Clive, Trev, Dean, Dave, Si and Chris stayed in a camp site outside the town.

The camp site fellas travelled down in two cars, Me, Chris and Trev in one car with Chris driving, the rest in the other driven by Dean, We had a CB radio betweens us and set off on Friday evening to travel through the night. All went well for the first half an hour but then Deans car broke down on the M25 and in Chrises car we had made the cool decision to turn the CB radio off!! So we didn't know what had happenned to them! the poor chaps had too take the National express the next day and didn't reach the camp site til Saturday evening!!
The four man tent that Trev brought along was so old I think that Laurance of Arabia once slept in it, it only had one proper door but you could exit from any of the three walls and the roof if you wanted too, it was very well air conditioned but not to great when it rained!! Luckly I wasn't sleeping in it I shared a two man tent with Clive! which was nice!! READ MORE IN TRAVELOGUE BELOW
