Travel Tips for Newquay

Newquay boating lake

by LouiseTopp

Just down the road from the Harrington and over the road from the zoo by the viaduct bridge is the boating lake. If you like plants, flowers and nice walks then this is for you. It's name is Trenance Gardens and the lake was dug out during the Depression by unemployed men who were given a pasty, dole money and tobacco; while their wives received a free packet of tea at the end of the week. There's also a riding stables in the corner, although its a bit concealed, you wouldn't know it was there. Very wheelchair friendly, there's 2km of park to explore including the rose garden, the scent of each flower is strong and would make great perfumes.

There are benches with names of people on who have passed, some of them are quite young. There are many dog walkers as well.

The lakeside cafe is a must with views across the lake towards the fountain which lights up at night. People can hire paddle boats and zoom round the lake, the baby birds were cute. There's a couple of boarded up cottages which would make a great guest house, shame to see them all covered up but there's probably a reason; it's probably haunted!

Boys take on Newquay, England

by bryINpoland

May of 2004, me and some of my boys got out of London and headed southwest to Englands "surfing capitol" Newquay. OK being from Hawaii, home of Sunset beach, Pipeline, and Waimea. I wasnt to impressed with the surf that Newquay had to offer, but i was impressed with the beautiful coastlines and the wonderful atmosphere that the town of Newquay possessed.

Some of our highlights of the trip were. Our first time driving on the left side of the road. Lying our way into a en-suite room. Partying hard our first night there, and all being passed out by 8pm. Getting the rental car booted, and having the Newquay police assist us in trying to remove it. And bringing our swim shorts, only to realise that the water in May is way to cold to swim in...

"Rental Car..."

This is a picture of our rental car we rented to drive down to Newquay. It was a tight fit being that there was 5 of us, but we managed.

"Rental car gets booted!"

You should know that when u head off to Newquay ,that u have to pay to park at the beaches. Well we knew this ahead of time, and made sure that we purchased our parking pass. I actually woke up at 5 in the morning with my buddy Alvaro, to walk down to the lot to buy my ticket.

Well unfortunatly we put it the wrong way on the dash, and they booted our car. We called the cops and argued it, and they argreed that the company that booted us was wrong, BUT that we couldnt do anything about it.

So we asked if it was ok if we took off the wheel to try to get the boot off, and they said "As long as you dont damage their boot, its ok by us"

So we removed the tire, while the cops stuck around just to see if it was possible.

The guy that put the boot on was so pissed, he called his boss and said "They are trying to take the boot off, and the cops are watching them attempt it!"

Sadly we failed, and had to pay to get it removed before we could go home. It wasnt so funny then. But now we look back at the great pictures and mark it as one of the great highlights of the trip.
