Harrington guest house + anyone recommend it please?

by LouiseTopp

On the last two weeks of June myself and my parents will be staying at the Harrington guest house in Newquay. I would like to hear from anyone else who has stayed there and what it is like? My parents are senior citizens and I read that anyone can run a six bedroomed guesthouse, and not be registered with the council or have any fire safety certificate which is a bit worrying.

Please put my mind at rest before i send off the deposite? Many thanks.

I don't know the Harrington, but if you need an alternative, we stayed at the Pengilly Guesthouse and found it wonderful. Here is their website:

Personally I would look on the official website for accommodation for Newquay and if the Harrington is listed then I would be happy.

If not and you want to stay then check with he local authority and ask them ?

I have not stayed in that particular guesthouse but am certain that laws and regulations about health, safety and fire apply to all such premises. I am sure you can rest assured about that aspect.

You could contact the town council on

if you needed to check further about this property.

Travel Tips for Newquay

Newquay Zoo

by sunshinejo

Although Newquay Zoo is one of the main tourist activities in the town, especially if you have kids, I didn't really rate it that highly when I visited. As far as zoos go, this one is the smallest I've ever been to, and they have a pretty limited selection of animals to see. Personally, I wouldn't recommend it, unless maybe you have children who've never been to a zoo before.

However, in it's defense, we were there fairly late on a Sunday afternoon and missed all the feedings and talks. There are childrens play areas, a maze and an oriental garden, as well as some snack facilities.

Entrance was £8.95 for adults, £6.00 for children aged 3-15 years and they do family tickets (2 adults & 2 children) for £25.00.

Opening times for summer 2006 were 9:00am - 6:00pm (last entry 5:00pm).

Check the website below for further information on entrance fees, opening times, feeding times, new arrivals, events, adoptions etc....
