First of all...this is *not* a hotel. So don't expect an elevator, a bar, evening meals, porters. Instead, expect comfort, excellent breakfasts, helpful and friendly hosts and an excellent location whether you arrive by car or public transport.
This is, quite simply, the best b&b/guesthouse I've ever stayed at. The most comfortable bed and by far the most imaginative and best-cooked breakfast menu I've come across, be it hot or cold dishes.
Warwick House is a typical Regency terraced house, built in 1836 and facing the sea. It is spotlessly clean, with a comfortable guest lounge (Scrabble and backgammon sets provided), a small patio for sitting out when the sun shines and off-road parking for guest cars. A couple of minutes' walk will get you to the town centre, with bars, restaurants, shops and cafes. 30 seconds walk will get you to the 'prom', with views across Mounts Bay to Newlyn.
My single room was small but cosy, with comfy bed, bathrobe, tea/coffee tray, pristine en suite (lashings of hot water), good quality toiletries and excellent free wifi.
But the breakfasts...yes, you do have to order the night before but just take a look at the menu in the photos to see why they are so special. And, of course, there is a choice of cereals, and toast with jam or marmalade, coffee, tea and juice. I had the Cornish muffin, with creamy scrambled eggs and spicy Cornish hog's pudding. And the next day I had the fruit plate, and the final day the traditional English breakfast. All beautifully and freshly cooked (apart from the fruit plate, obviously!). I wish I'd stayed longer to try the waffles and the pancakes...
Warwick House is unfortunately not suitable for those who are mobility impaired, as it is accessed by 11 steps.
It is testament to the quality of Warwick House that there were 'no vacancies' on any of the nights I stayed, even though it was the lowest of the low season. I booked through www.booking.com but you can also book on the website below.
If you intend to stay in Penzance, whether for one night before a trip to the Scilly Isles or for a week's holiday, I can't imagine you'd find better quality at the price. Highly recommended.
Unique Quality: The breakfasts!
Directions: From the A30 follow the 'town centre' road along the seafront until you pass the Jubilee Pool. Regent Terrace is the second on the right (doesn't really look like a road...turn by 'Stanley's'). Parking is clearly signed after the turn.
