    Historic House

    by

Blackwell Grange is an early 18th-century country house at Blackwell, near Darlington, County Durham. Much altered in the 19th century, it is now a hotel. We spent an unforgettable night in this hotel in May of 2004.

The house was built about 1710 for George Allan, a wealthy industrialist who died in 1748. The three-storey, five-bayed central block was extended in the mid-18th century by the addition of two substantial two storey five bay wings and a ten bay south garden front.

You can watch my 3 min 27 sec Video Darlington Blackwell Grandge Hotel out of my Youtube channel or here on VT.

Travel Tips for Darlington

With the Jones family

by marimar_72

Here is my son playing at the park. When I was a child,my father sent me along with my sister to stay with a family in Darlington,The host were like another family to me.She had two boys of her own...I remember her saying that God gave her another 2 daughters(reffering to me and my sister).
I treuly loved this lady as my own mother, she always stood up for me when other kids used to tease me.
She always used to calm me down when I felt homesick.
she`s the best host I have ever stayed with.

Darlington on the Web!

"Home of the "Locomotion""

Darlington is the home of Robert Stephenson's famous train, "Locomotion".

"Home of the Tilly's"

Darlington is also well known on VT for being the home of VT members Steve and Susan Tilly!

Darlington was my point of arrival for the "Tilly Tour" of the North East of England :-0 Over the weekend of Aug 20-22nd I would explore the railway museum and town of Darlington and then have a personally tailored, escorted tour of Scarborough, Whitby, Durham and Newcastle - so I hope you'll follow my other adventures in the North East too.
