Your hosts - Mr & Mrs Parkin & Baby Parkin. by Firestar24 OK - so, I never actually stayed at The White House Hotel.... but I did work there for 3 years. With my insider's knowledge, I can assure you that the staff is the friendliest ever & the beer is definately not watered down!!! My experience of this place is mainly centered on the bar vaccinity, but I do believe ( I have heard rumours) that somewhere passed the Ladies, is the HOTEL part of my local. ( clue's in the name, huh?) The food here is really good. Proper English bar meals with some fancy twists. They fill you up for a good price. And I've been reliably informed that rooms are "clean and comfortable" - make sure you request an ensuite though, most rooms are shared bathroom.
We used to have the best jukebox in the land... but now we have a selection of "NOW!" albums. I am Queen of the pool table and noone will ever knock me from my throne (!) The beer garden is beautiful. It's a little sun-trap on a summer's morning. Abbey House Hotel by mistressmau On the outskirts of Barrow-in-Furness and close to Furness Abbey, this large Mansion is set amdist private woodlands and gardens, the hotel takes its name from the neighbouring ruins of one of the greatest Cistercian foundations in the country, Furness Abbey. In fact the Abbey ruins are just a very very short walk away.

If you want something special when visiting Barrow then this is top of the range. This Hotel reminds me of an Elizabethian House, but it was apparently built in 1914 making it comparitavely new. This does not, however, diminish it's grandeur. The staff are formal and courteous and very professional - it makes me think I'm not in Barrow (where we tend to prefer a more relaxed approach). The rooms are exquisite and I can understand completely why this is a favourite for weddings.
Stunning country gardens, magnificent restaurant and only a short walk from Furness Abbey itself.
