FAB WEEKEND AT THE CRANLEIGH 29-31 August 2008
My husband and I have just spent our first wedding anniversary at the Canleigh Hotel - Bowness - on Windermere. I am very pleased to say that we had the most amazing weekend ever.
The hotel was absolutly lovely, our room (room 2) was gorgeous. The bed was so comfortbale and the room and en-suite was exceptionally clean. We were provided with his and her bathrobes and spa toiletries which were a fab touch. Your room also has tea and coffee making facilities, oh and not forgetting a 40'' samsung flat screen television on the wall complete with dvd player and ipod docking station !!!!
Staff were very friendly and helpfull. The breakfast was lovely and cooked fresh to order which was great.
The hotels location was brilliant just a minutes walk from the centre and a 2 minute walk from the lake.
We will definatley book the The Cranleigh Hotel again.
High Class B&B!
We stayed in two rooms, both refurbished ones.
The first had a fab bathroom with a lovely spa bath flat screen T.V but was overall on the small side for the price. The second was a lovely big room but lacking a bath at all, just a shower.
The lady on reception on our arrival was a bit unhelpful and not very cheerful. Parking is very limited.
Being veggie we found it a bit insulting that our option for breakfast was a smaller version on the meat eaating option, a spoonful of beans and a couple of mushrooms does not set one up for a days walking!
I think this accomodation needs to decide if it is a b&b, or a boutique hotel, at the moment it seems to being trying in decor and price to be both!
We stayed in one of the Hotels new rooms for our honeymoon. It was excellent from start to finish. The room was first class and the staff could not do enough for us throughout our stay. They recommended excellent restaurants and places to visit during our stay. The location of the hotel was excellent being onlty two minutes walk from the lake and the village. The Hotel is really a boutique hotel, however they do not push this which we thought was great as we felt we had found something unique. I would highly recommend this as a place to stay in the centre of the Lake District and we will be visiting again very soon. Thank you to all at The Cranleigh we had a brilliant time staying with you..........
Impressed by the changes
We have stayed at the Cranleigh several times in the past under the old ownership & although the people who managed the hotel for the previous owners were very welcoming & all was clean etc it was begining to look rather dated & shabby. We did debate whether to try somewhere else this year, but as the location suits us we decided to give it a go. We had a fabulous stay & the new decor in the main building is a vast improvement. My son was in the one refurbished standard room & it was lovely, although his bathroom was along the landing & not ensuite; but as it was for his use only it was no problem. My daughter & I were in the annex, which has not yet been refurbished, but it was clean & comfortable. The owner/manager asked if we would mind transfering to one of the new superior rooms on the last night, at no extra cost, to help him out of a jam with a booking & that was fabulous. Staff were courteous & helpful & as our train home was not until about 5.30 pm on our last day, they were good enough to store our luggage to allow us to enjoy a last day in the area. I understand the annex is to be refurbished at the end of the year, so it will be interesting to see what they do with the standard rooms in there; we will deffinately be returning.
My husband and I prebooked on the internet and chose the room with king size 4 poster bed. The room was on the first floor, very spacious and clean, with a large bathroom, and the bed was very comfortable. (The best we had slept in during our 5 week holiday). When we booked we knew this room hadn't been renovated so we weren't expecting a luxury room and we were quite surprised at how nice the room was. We thought it was very good value at 38 GBP pppn compared to other places in the area, and the room was superior to b&b accommodation we stayed at in other parts of the UK. Breakfast was delicious, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We parked our car in the carpark on arrival and didn't need to drive it till we left two days later - the shopping centre, pubs and the lake were all in easy walking distance from the hotel. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the only disappointment was the wet weather!!
Wonderful decor but with some issues.
We have just come back from a stay at the Cranleigh, which i have to say was very nice despite a few niggles.
The room we stayed in No. 3 was very nicely decorated and the bed very comfortable. Everything was very clean (although the room could have been hoovered during our 3 night stay as it was getting quite bitty). We have to say that for the price of the room described as superior we were disappointed by its size, as the bathroom door was very close to the bed and didn't open fully, with the light switch behind the door so if you forgot to turn the light on you had to come out close the door then reach round the door. The window overlooked the room and unless you put the blind down you were unable to get changed/undressed without being seen. I am sure that the other rooms are fabulous going on the decor in our room.
The staff were very nice especially the lady with the blonde hair.
The breakfast was good apart from the amount of beans and mushrooms which on both days were actually laughable! Beans.. 2 teaspoons if that and very small portion of mushrooms as well (maybe this needs addressing?), but overall was very tasty!
We were very happy with the hotel apart from this.
Our weekend stay at The Cranleigh was quite simply fantastic, the room was beyond our expectations and the staff where incredibly helpful.
The location is perfect and we really couldn't have hoped for a better time!!!
Thank-you to everyone at The Cranleigh for making it so perfect!!!
Lovely Hotel and great service
Me and the girlfriend stayed for 2 nights at the cranleigh and it was a very nice stay. The room was spotless and the service and staff was very friendly and helpfull.
We were in room 9 on the top floor and i've no real complaints about that. There's no lake view but if there was the rooms would be very expensive so for the price its very good value for money.
One to note is there is only space for 7 cars at the front and there is 9 rooms, but don't threat, this is a good thing. The owner, Steve lives about a 1 minute walk (if that) from the hotel, right in the middle of bowness and has a gated drive area where i parked so my car was safe and less likley to be dented. Just ask at reception.
My only complaint about the hotel was the breakfast was a bit bland, no real taste and you couldn't have it delivered to your room but would i stay at the cranleigh again? Yes, 100% i would. Well worth a visit!
PS Go for a meal at Roberto's ( next to the new Tesco) it is very nice indeed, oh and go to Barrow Zoo, think its called south lakes Zoo)
Fantastic Hotel - Great Value - Great Location
Me and my girlfriend have just returned from a two night stay at the above hotel. We stayed in room 1 which is located on the 1st floor. Great service from the minute we arrived which was 12 noon and was told our room would be ready in half-an-hour [normal check-in 2pm i think?]. Great thing about staying in a hotel/guest house like this is the personal service you recieve unlike a hotel chain where communication can sometimes be a problem.
Lovely comfortable bed, great flat screen tele, very clean and peaceful location. Nice 2 minute stroll into Bowness shops/lake, could not have been in a better location to explore the lakes. Very good value for money for the above mentioned and also comes with free use of nearby leisure centre. Some great eating places, nice Itallian, didnt think much of the steak house opposite costa Coffee.
Breakfast very nice, just the right amount.
Prob best hotel we have stayed to-date for the money. All staff very polite.
Stayed in the 'suite' - very average for price paid
We stayed in the best room, the suite for 2 nights and have to say that we found this very average for the price paid (£370 for 2 nights).
We have stayed in many hotels in Windermere and this was not the best.
The hotel did not offer evening meals so we ordered a take away. We brought our own plates and cuttlery and sat at the table to eat our takeaway... only to be rudely interrupted by the staff telling us not to eat in the room.
The spa bath was great although we got told off again for lighting a candle!!
The suite is on the ground floor, right next to the reception, You can hear every sound from the reception. We ended up feeling as though we had to tip-toe around the room. Not good when you are trying to have a romantic weekend away!!
The breakfast staff were very nice and friendly and the breakfast was lovely.
We just found the management a bit uptight to be honest and would find it quite difficult to recommend the hotel to others,
