Glenridding - The Heart Of Ullswater
Glenridding lies towards the southern end of the western shore of Lake Ullswater in The Lake District.
It's only a very small village but it is a magnet for tourists for a variety of reasons. One reason is that it's the most popular starting point for the walks up Helvellyn and Striding Edge, another is for the Lake Steamers and a third is that it's simply a very beautiful spot on a very beautiful lake.
We always stop here on our way over to the lakes, whether we're visiting Keswick, Ambleside or Windermere, it's hard not to spend some time at Glendridding first.
One of our favourite things to do here is to get a steamer over to Howtown and walk back to Glenridding on the lakeside path. It's a good 2 1/2 to 3 hours walk, but there's not much climbing involved and no part of the route is "dangerous".
I'll show a lot of this walk in the tips below.
