Stayed there for a wedding. On leaving they added an extra GBP 100 to my bill for damage to some furniture. Their story kept changing with each request for clarification. They never offered proof of damage or receipt for repairs. I will never recommend this hotel. Manager was rude. Breakfast service very slow.

    Unique Quality: Lovely location.

Cracking hotel in the north Lakes

by TripAdvisor Member Watford_Wobble

We thoroughly enjoyed our seven night stay at the Lodore Falls Hotel during September. The holiday was to celebrate my 40th birthday and the stay here made it very memorable indeed.

The location of the hotel is fantastic for those that love walking with all the well known routes right on your doorstep. We only used the car on one occasion other than that we used either the bus, which stops directly outside the hotel circa on the hour, or the boat service. The jetty is just a five minute stroll away.

Our room had a lakeside view and waking up to see Catbells in the morning was fantastic. The windows could really have done with a clean. This needs to be considered by the management especially with the amount of house martins nesting under the eves and the fact they are promoting the room with a lakeside view. Other than that our room (305) was great. Newly decorated, very clean and the housekeeping was superb.

We liked the fact that if you have booked in for dinner, bed and breakfast you can also arrange to eat dinner at the other hotels in the chain. We decided to try the Armathwait Hall and it was very good indeed.

As we were lucky with the weather we swam on two occasions in the outdoor pool and also used the sauna. We had the pool to ourselves which was lovely and really not that cold as it is heated. Very relaxing after a hard days walking.

The restaurant was very good but can be very busy. It’s a bustling, busy room in which to eat. The waiters and waitress’ were quick and efficient. However, do please note that we did see a drop in service over the weekend when there was a wedding function booked. We did notice that attention was given to the wedding function rather than the guest residents. Check before you book.

A great hotel in which to stay. We had a fantastic time.

wedding

We got married at the Lodore Falls Hotel on Sat 23rd Sept 2006. This had been booked for 18 mts, during this period 2 wedding co ordinators had left which was a bit unnerving. When we arrived at the hotel the day before our wedding we were met by the manager and ass mgr who stated that our wedding co-ordinator had left (3rd!). Despite this they gave us their word that we would be looked after by the two of them personally.

The evening before the wedding we had approx 50 of our friends and family eating at the hotel. Despite how busy the restaurant was we were all looked after and the food and the service was excellent.

The day itself was perfect and the staff couldn't have been anymore helpful. All the guest enjoyed themselves and were impressed by the food, service and the hotel and grounds.

We were so impressed by the whole weekend that we shall be returning for our anniversary and would not hesitate in recommending this hotel to family and friends.

Great view, great service

by TripAdvisor Member ingrdo

We stayed at the Lodore Falls Hotel for three days at the end of our 6 week UK tour. The bar and restaurant service was excellent, staff friendly and helpful. The hotel is located on the lake along a walking trail with specatular scenery. Great places to lounge and read a book or have a drink. The food was marginal: dinners were good (no ability to order a la carte, though), but breakfasts were not so great. Burnt toast one morning, scrambled eggs that were, well, odd. They had a good breakfast buffet that sufficed if we didn't want anything warm.

The gym (or leisure center) left a lot to be desired. It felt very cramped, had peeling paint, the treadmill is on its ninth life, and due to the set up (above the indoor pool area) I had to negotiate potentially slippery stairs on wobbly legs!

The was a highly advertised spa that I did not visit due to time restrictions but it looked nice with lots of options.

I only gave this an 'average' rating because I'm not sure how much real value we got for the money spent.

Dont be a wimp-its not that far

A Great way to pass a day is to do the circular walk around Derwentwater, I have read various reports that it isbetween 6 and 10 miles for the whole circuit-however long it is its a lovely walk , lakeside for much of it ,it is very scenic. There are a few places to stop and have a snack or meal, most of them in the area of Ladore Falls, so you could make a little side trip after lunch to see the falls before continuing on your circuit.
The walk is clearly marked on the maps, and almost as clearly marked on the route itself.
As long as you are reasonably fit you should have no trouble completing the circuit- and the beauty of it is that if you do think you have walked enough you just stroll to the next landing stage and get a ferry back to your starting point ( in high season- the ferries run less frequently off season).

Could do better

We have just returned from a weekend break at the Ladore Falls. We hoped to have a relaxing retreat but sadly the hotel disappointed us. We arrived at 2pm at the reception and actually had to go behind the reception desk and knock on the glass window as the receptionist was engrossed in her magazine. We were then told our room wasn't ready, no apologies just "not guaranteed until 3". The porters took our bags and after an excellent spa treatment we arrived in our room. We'd booked a suite with a balcony for lakeside view but sadly the view was spolied due to extremly dirty windows, cobwebs and bird droppings. We informed housekeeping but the matter wasn't dealt with until the porter arrived (after the second chasing call) with our bags. The porter returned quickly wiped one fresh dropping and then disappeared saying it would take 2 hours to clean the windows and he hadn't got time because of a wedding party. The room was beautiful but the balcony was shabby. The photographs of the hotel fail to highlight the busy road immediately infront of the hotel and the staff headquarters which were very noisy at night.

On a positive note the food was excellent although the service was rushed as the hotel was busy with the wedding party.

Overall not quite the retreat we'd hoped for and i defintely would not recommend upgrading to the Sir Galahad Suite for the balcony and view. The hotel staff should be taught about the "small" things that make good service.

Fantastic weekend break!!!!!

5 ladies of differing ages, 20's, 40's and 50's. We all had a fantastic time staying at the Lodore Falls. We had 2 rooms, triple and a twin, they were superior fellside veiw rooms with ensuite facility. We couldn't falter the rooms, very clean and very very comfortable.
The evening meals were absolutely beautiful, there was about 5 or 6 choices for each course, and the menu changed every night. I think even Gordon Ramsey would have been speechless!!!
The hotel has its own jetty on Derwentwater, the boat comes and can drop you off at any 1 of the 7 stops. We set sail to Keswick, after we all endured a relaxing facial at the hotels beauty spa.
I would definately recommend this hotel to anybody who wants a little gettaway and a bit of a pamper. I will be going back for sure, maybe next time with my husband for a romantic break.

Have just returned from ledore falls hotel (keswick) May 2006.On arrival hotel looked lovely, setting magnificent.Reception staff not the most pleasant i have met!! no chit chat or good journey, enjoy your stay etc.however rooms made up for this,Excellent, very plush and cosy, although very warm.Could not fault meals and service both excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!waiters and waitresses.all very friendly and attentive.Had beauty treatment in spa excellent.Only downfall is indoor pool area ,which i think let the hotel down ,but i believe this has not undregone refurbishment yet, although this would not stop me recommeding the hotel or returning.Overall 10/10. Can,t wait to go back as long as it,s with the same people i went with.Jacqui..Co.Durham.

Excellent service

by TripAdvisor Member tennispick1

We stayed at this hotel last week with friends, both couples had a dog and the service we received was very good. All the staff were very polite and friendly. The rooms were well decorated and very clean. Just one small point which detracts from excellent, the food was very good and came on hot plates but the food itself was not very warm. The cooked breakfast was the same and not very tasty which was a shame as it detracted from the 5 stars we would have given.

What a great hotel!

by TripAdvisor Member StumpyCambridge

Wonderful welcome after a long drive and great to have porters to assist with the bags. The room was fantastic with great views over the lake. Bar and restaurant service was first class and the food was worthy of some of the most fashionable london eateries.

This is well worth a visit!
