More about Center Parcs Whinfell Forest

Luxury Lodges at Oasis Whinfell Forest!

by TripAdvisor Member Valenti

I have just returned from a weekend at Oasis Whinfell Forest. I stayed in one of the luxury lodges in Bilberry Wood with my husband and twins aged 11 and my sister and her husband and children aged 10 and 12. We stayed in the Lodge which had an outside jaccuzi and indoor sauna and steam room. Although it was expensive...I have to say it was well worth every penny...we had a totally relaxing time and the kids spent most of it in the jaccuzi! Thus saving us money in Butterfly Centre! It had 4 bedrooms all en-suite. Really big downstairs and good kitchen facilities, though we never used it as we got the Breakfast vouchers for 1st time and again they are really value for money indeed! We went to Cher Pierre's for breakfast everyday and it was spot on!

This was our 9th time at Oasis and once again it did not disappoint...we love it here!

1st night we went to Cher Pierre's for tea....service was much improved, food wasn't as good as last year and I think they need a more varied menu.

2nd night we went to Luciano's and it was wonderful! Tthen went to see the Movies show and the cast were excellant!

3rd night we stayed in with take away pizza!

It is very expensive at Oasis.....especially if you take the kids to the Den....where all the arcades are! But....it is a very relaxing holiday and all I can say...is roll on next year! We could see a lot of improvements since our visit last year...and its very good to see they are updating some lodges. When Centreparcs 1st took over we hated it...and much preferred it when it was ran by Oasis...but now they seem to be listening to what people write in those surveys.....I for one was thrilled to see they have added internet cafes at Green Room and The Den after complaining last year of there not being one!

A very happy customer! xxx

We enjoyed a most relaxing week from 24th-28th April staying with a family group in a Comfort Villa which was clean and well presented.

We enjoyed long chilled out days by the pool - you can take your own food and drinks in so we grabbed a table and chairs and set up base! The pool was also very clean and extremely warm and was particularly loved by the younger members of our party with specific slides and pools for very small children. Changing rooms are well laid out, although there can be a wait for a changing room (particularly the larger family rooms) during peak times.

Shops were well stocked although it was a little annoying to find that the supermarket shut at 7pm which seemed very early. We mainly ate in the lodge but would advise that if you plan to cook large meals you take your own pots/baking dishes as these are limited. We had a takeaway from the Indian - Rajinda Pradesh one evening which was excellent and very reasonable.

The most impressive side of Center Parcs which we saw on this visit was the service provided by the Medical Centre Nurses and Security. A member of our party was unfortunate enough to be taken ill and the staff were fantastic - providing transport back to the lodge after visiting the Medical Centre, dropping by later in the day to check all was ok and also regularly phoning and showing genuine concern. We feel the level of service could not have been exceeded in any way whatsoever.

Overall we had a most enjoyable week at Center Parcs and although a member of our party was taken unwell, Center Parcs staff ensured the difficult situation we were faced with was made as bearable as possible.

We are planning our next visit as we speak.

Great for families

Ok so I wouldn't go here if I was looking for a romantic secluded break, but as new parents it is absolutely terrific. We had a comfort plus lodge which was perfectly adequate, the kitchen was well equipped and the bedrooms & bathrooms whilst not the most stylish did the job well. We loved the woodland surroundings.

The big draw of Center Parcs are the activities, at 3 months our son was a little young to enjoy most of them, but we put him in the creche for one afternoon and were really reassured by the detailed notes we got back. We used the time to go to the Aqua Sana which is absolutely wonderful and relaxing - totally worth the money. The swimming pool with its various flumes & wave machines was also excellent and was being thoroughly enjoyed by older children and families.

We ate at most of the restaurants, they are expensive but not greatly so probably about a pound or so more than we would pay for eating out in Edinburgh. Quality and service was not great but was adequate at Chez Pierre, Yangs, The Lakeside Inn and Cafe Refresh. The Indian is good if you have something other than the buffet which is very bland.

The whole place is well set up for families and we enjoyed simply feeling welcomed at all the facilities with our baby and pram. We are definately coming back next year.

fantastic!!!

we just come back from oasis. what a fantastic place to unwind from our every day life. a place for every age. it has everthing you need to keep your family entertained. we have four children age 14,12,4,and two. we put the little ones in the day care clubs and the big ones went off and did what they wanted for a few hours whilst mum and dad enjoyed a luxurious spa. wow!amazing. no. kids are allowed in so it was sheer bliss. not normally the type to leave our little ones anywhere we felt safe here the kids really enjoyed it to. bike hire was a little steep next time we will take our own. we hired bike trailers for the little ones and they are great, infact we have just invested in one for home. one thing i can say is you do need to be a little fit to ride them bikes all day but even that was great fun and it has kick started our fitness regime back up. so child freindly they think of everthing you might need during your stayeven down to toilet seats for toddlers. a must holiday for ever family

Great but not for toddlers!

The place was fantastic and the accomodation was great (we stayed in the Lakeside appartments) however we found it a struggle keeping our 20 month old amused. There's only so much time you can spend in the water with a child this young and there wasn't much else to do with her.

The designated childrens soft play areas are in need of a revamp - and older, bigger rougher children (who aren't allowed in the area) tended to dominate things!

We hired a bike (with child seat) but she wasn't keen on that so that turned out to be a waste of money - as did the breakfast vouchers!!

At the time of booking I thought it'd be a good idea to buy breakfast vouchers but if I went again, I'd definitely self-cater for breakfast. The breakfast in Chez Pierre was a bit 'ropey' to say the least: pale looking sausages and bland scarmbled egg for the little ones and more pale sausages for me!! The breakfast in the Sports Cafe was much better - even edible!

Meals at the other restaurants were great. The food was lovely and the service 'ok'. Our little girl ate a whole bowl of the chicken pasta in Luciano's and our food was spot on. We did bring our own cutlery for her though - every time we ordered a meal for her they'd arrive with adult sized cutlery even though she was sitting in a high-chair.
We had takewaways 2 nights too when our little one had finally gone to sleep which were a bit dearer than what you'd pay for at home but still reasonable!

My husband had a combi massage at the Aqua Sana and said it was great - again over-priced but still enjoyable and as it's not something we do regularly, you don't mind splashing out once in a while for a bit of a pampering.

So all in all - a great place, fantastic setting, lovely accommodation (and very clean), but more suited to older children. I wish now that I'd pre-booked the Bumble bee club to keep her amused but at the time of booking, I thought there'd be enough (free things) to do without relying on that.
