Barcelo Buxton Palace Hotel
Palace Road, Buxton, Derbyshire, SK17 6AG, United Kingdom
Buxton's best hotel!!!
My stay at the Palace Hotel was brilliant. The accommodation was brilliant, same with the meals and the service. If you require room for 1/2 kids and 2 adults then a suite room is best. The hotel is also conveniently located close to Buxton town centre and the beautiful Peak District. It has a reasonable size pool too - (always warm!!).
Unique Quality: Warm pool, Great views, Nice meals and Friendly staff.
Directions: On the side of the A6.
Buxton's Best Known Hotel
This hotel looks and sounds very grand, but please note if you plan to stay there, the meals are appalling. Not sure about the accommodation, I live just up the road so never required it! On its plus side, it does look nice inside, and it is bang next to the town centre so good location, but for the price I don't think you'd get what you pay for. Sorry I can't be more informative!
Directions: About 200 yards from the train station, you can't miss it really, its about the same size as Buxton!
This is supposedly a 4-Star hotel. It is certainly impressive enough. The service is good and the food very good. However, the hotel shows its age, looking extremly tired; the rooms leave a lot to be desired. This could be a beautifal place for a weekend treat, but alas it is an expensive disappointment.
Unique Quality: Impressive building - but tired.
Good restaurant food.
Leisure section attached.
Directions: Up the hill, past the station.
More about Barcelo Buxton Palace Hotel
enjoyed our stay very much
We stayed here for 2 nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary, loved the grand entrance and the splendid staircase. Our room was adequate and had nice wiews over Buxton. On the whole the staff were very friendly and attentive. Food was very good both evening meals and breakfast it was hot and well presented and a good selection on the menue on both nights. Enjoyed out visit to Buxton very much, we thought that our 2 night stay was excellent value for money and would certainly recommend it to anyone paying a visit to Derbyshire. Im sure if we ever return in the furure then we would definately stay here again.
Hardly a palace
We stayed here 2 nights and were unimpressed with the dark, depressing room which had a view of a wall! Very tired decor throughout, what seemed like hundreds of Eastern European staff, austere dining room with cold, uninviting atmosphere. Well down on standard expected.
Excellent service but lacked atmosphere
Grand old hotel in prime position in Buxton. Service was very good and breakfast excellent. However, the hotel lacked atmosphere especially during the evenings which lead us to find other places to eat and drink (quite pricey too, glass of house white wine £4.10) We felt the hotel needed a pianist or some other live music and a better defined bar area to encourage residents to sit and relax. Such a shame because the hotel has a lot going for it.
Never again, unfortunately!
A favourite hotel of ours (used to be!) There were too many seminar attendees who took the place over. Car parking is now charged at £2 per night for residents! No prior warning until we arrived at the barrier! Was told it was in the small print, somewhere!Sad, as we did enjoy our breaks there. Still, we shall find somewhere else.
Needs a facelift
Decor of the bedrooms poor and dull, broken fittings in bathroom, peeling paintwork on doors. Food good. Lift had a life of it's own!! Great loby and still has some good things going for it.....needs some TLC
I am visiting the trip advisor site this evening as I have another business trip to Buxton this week and I want to find an alternative to this awful hotel. The problems started when I had difficulties making myself understood to the foreign reservation clerk when phoning to make a booking. The bedroom was tatty and the bathroom worse. I wanted an open bedroom window and the porter tried to track down a lump of wood to wedge it open (!) but couldn't track one down. Then just to add insult to injury I had to pay for parking. Deceptively grand from the outside. Really crummy inside. Not up to standard for the business traveller.
We spent Christmas Eve to Boxing Day at this impressive hotel, the food was well presented and always hot, plenty of staff. the disappointment was the atmosphere and entertainment, we had live music during the meals but nowhere to dance, after dinner and during Christmas Day nothing was organaised, no games entertainment or film etc. due to the vast number of people staying there the lounge and bar seating areas were insufficient.
The Spa area felt in need of some TLC as did the bathrooms.
Plus side: lovely views over the town, warm room, beauty salon relaxing massage recommended.
The Paramount Group need to spend some money on this grand old hotel.
