Travel Tips for Derby

Derbyshire County Cricket Club

by St_Vincent

Derby is the home of Derbyshire County Cricket Club which is situated on Grandstand Road just off the Pentagon Roundabout. Within the same complex is a health club, Damon’s Restaurant and the Days Hotel (q.v.). The club are currently playing in the second divisions of the County Championship and the one day league. Each side is allowed to field two overseas players and for the 2007 season Derbyshire have two Australians playing for them, Travis Birt and Simon Katich who is captaining the side.

Derby Guildhall

by stevezero

The building we see today was built by locally born Henry Duesbury in 1842. It wa a remodelling of a the former building in Greek revival style, which was destroyrd by fire in 1841.
The vaulted entrance is supported by huge cast iron arches. The old council chamber has a fine ealborate ceiling, and is now a samall theatre.

DERBY

"DERBY"

I think of Derby as the Gateway to the Peak District. Although there are some very interesting things to see in the city or nearby, I'd recommend driving further north to more scenic towns like Buxton and Matlock or Chesterfield. We found an extraordinary restaurant in Derby and would go back just to eat there again. It's called MASA, and we loved it.
