Travel Tips for Derby
Costume of porcelain modeller
by Imbi
The Derby Museum and Art Gallery also exhibits the costume of porcelain modeller. This costume gives you an idea about how a porcelain modeller used to look like two hundreds year ago. I tried that costume on but unfortunately there was no one available at the moment of time to capture the photo of a modern porcelain modeller.
Assembly Rooms
by Imbi
Another side of the Market Place you could see Assembly Rooms, which was built in 1977. It is the main entertainment centre in Derby city. All sort of events from Arts and Entertainment to orchestra season, comedy, rock and pop events, family entertainment such as the annual ice-show, dance, drama and children's shows take place here.
A small city with lots of charm..
by SiGo
If You're visiting Derby hear are some nice things to do.
1. The Cathedral is quite small as Cathedrals go, but it is a very beautiful building.
Be sure to find the little underground chapel.
2. The Dolphin pub close to the Cathedral is one of the oldest pubs in Britain. Great food not expensive.
3. The Metro Cinema Green Lane is part of the university and shows interesting films not blockbusters.
4. If you walk a about a mile out of the city centre past the Cathedral you will find Darley Park, a lovely green area with number five at the far end.
5. Darley Abbey pub is again a very old building and serves good ale.
A very pleasant place to spend the evening.
6. The museum and Art gallery rotates contemporary exhibits on the top floor which is often worth a visit. It also has a fine collection of paintings by Joseph Wright.
7. On a sunny day it's nice to sit by the river which runs past the city centre.
