Whistlestop Countryside Centre
by Jenniflower
The Whistlestop Countryside Centre is found next to the Matlock Bath railway station.
You walk past the centre to cross over the track and walk to the cable car to get to the Heights of Abraham, so location is excellent and easily accessible for anyone. It is wheel-char friendly.
The Whistlestop Countryside Centre has a little shop with snacky things and souvenirs, a wildlife exhibit, that is free... and it seems to act as the education and information centre in Matlock Bath.
I really like the building and it's surroundings, very quaint and so under-commercialised. Such a breath of fresh air!
Matlock, Prince of Derbyshire

If you live within 100kms of the town I bet you have visited. Even if you live further afield, I no doubt you have heard of it. On my travels when I try to explain where I live and no one as heard of it, I usually drop in the line "just up the road from Matlock" and suddenly the light goes on.
"We've all been there...."
Matlock is the administrative town of Derbyshire, and is a gateway to the Peak District National Park. The town and also its co-joined Matlock Bath, long since popular as a spa town, are also a big draw in their own right and as such can get extremely busy, especially on a Sunday afternoon, and even more so if it is sunny!
