Chatsworth and Pride and Prejudice
Jane Austen's pride and Prejudice is the most read period novel of all time. The characters Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy are superb, along with their families and friends...
Chatsworth was the scene for Darcy's home estate, Pemberly, in the Hollywood version of Pride and Prejudice, with Matthew Macfadden and Keira Knightly.
I am not a big fan of Keira's, but, as I AM a huge fan of Austen, I saw it and got the DVD. Nothing to compare with the BBC version with Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth (1995), but still highly enjoyable. It was wonderful walking around Chatsworth and seeing places where filming had taken place. Such a grand location, perfect for the story. It definatly made Chatsworth come more alive for me personally, although Chatsworth is in it's own right, spectacular.
