Taxis and Exeter Airport
by Glen30
Hello VT-ers,
Could someone kindly let me know the following questions:
a) Approx costs of a taxi from Exeter Airport to Premier Inn at:
Premier Inn
398 Topsham Road, Exeter,
Devon EX2 6HE, United Kingdom
b) Is this only a 10 minute ride?
c) Are taxi's metered and easily available outside Exeter Airport?
Cheers
Glen

Look at Exeter Airport information:
http://www.exeter-airport.co.uk/we-are-here
and
http://www.exeter-airport.co.uk/taxi-services
for taxi services and go to Taxi web site detailed for a quotation.
According to Google Maps the distance between the airport and Premier Inn also known as The Countess of Wear is about 5 miles and should take about 11 minutes.

There's usually a couple of taxis on the rank at Exeter airport to meet incoming flights and if not there's taxi numbers posted on the info board. All the taxis are metered, with the rates set by the local authority, and so it doesn't really matter which firm you use.
They're not cheap though and so expect to pay about £12 - £15 to the Premier Inn. It may be worth contacting the hotel and asking them if they have a preferential taxi firm who will do the run off-meter for a fixed fare as I think Premier Inn do have arrrangements with local taxis companies.

Travel Tips for Exeter
As once it was............

The West front of the cathedral (the main entrance) is covered with Medieval carvings of saints, bishops and kings. Sadly, the stone from which they are carved has suffered heavily over the centuries and many are badly eroded. Even so, in places you can still see traces of paint. Originally the whole frontage of the cathedral was painted in what we would now think of as a very gaudy fashion. Imagine how magnificently impressive it must have been to the Medieval mind (and faith)!
Walk up Stepcote Hill
by debtravers
Stepcote Hill is a steep cobbled medieval street that has steps at each side for pedestrians and a narrow cobbled roadway for packhorses; it is lined with 15th century merchants houses was once the main entrance into the city from its west side.
It is believed that its name is derived from the Old English word meaning steep rather than from step.
A simple step to imagine how the rest of the city must have looked during this period.
Best to wear flat shoes for this walk - and it can get pretty slippery in the rain so take care!
