Left Luggage at Exeter St David's Railway Station
by johngayton
Because of the spate of terrorist bombings around the UK over the last few decades most of the railway stations no longer offer left-luggage facilities and the same is true here in Exeter. However the offices of the Capitol Taxi firm, which is just across the road to the left of the main station exit, do have a secure luggage room and charge 1.50 GBP per item. I have no idea how long you can leave your luggage but I have left mine for two days without being charged any extra. Because it is a taxi office it is manned 24hours and so ideal if you are just in Exeter for the day and don't want to haul your kit around.

Underground Passages
by angelis
The underground passages were originally built to supply water to the Cathedral from a well outside the city walls. The oldest passage dates from 1346-9 and others were added between 1420-29 as the town expanded. It is the oldest and best preserved system in the country.
The guides are enthusiastic and well informed, but some knowledge of the towns streets helps if you are to orientate yourself and understand the places they are describing. My Mum, who doesn't know Exeter, came but found she was lost on some of the details.
Tours are about 35 minutes and begin with a short film. You then put on a hard hat and descend below the High Street. I love history and was fascinated and as a resident only had to pay half price as part of a special offer. Personally, if I'd paid full price I might have been disappointed; it is 3.75GBP for adults and one pound less for kids. It is slightly cheaper during the winter.
Children under 5 are not allowed on the tour. There is no wheelchair or pushchair access. The passages are narrow and uneven and the hard hat is well appreciated. My Mum's not tall but managed to bang her head several times.Definately not suitable if you suffer from claustrophobia.
The Passages open irregularly so a good idea to phone before you go. Also worth buying tickets in advance as tours are small and fill quickly during busy times.
Isca - Exeter
by debtravers
Exeter is the county town of Devon, it was founded by the Romans and has been inhabited for over 2000 years. Its a great city to live in as there's always plenty to do in the city but is also surrounded by beautiful countryside and is very near the coast too.
