Getting The Panoramic Overview
A short walk east of the town centre takes you up Beacon Hill, with the excellent and characterful mock-tudor Beacon Vaults pub en route. From here you get great views westwards over the estuary. The Clock Tower in the main pic was built to commemorate Queen Victoria's Jubilee.
It's at the top of the hill that beacons would be lit to warn the surrounding areas of dangers such as Viking invaders etcetera and hence the name.
