A Room With A View!
The aptly-named Harbour Lights is the second best located hotel in the area, beaten only by the Royal Britannia across the road. The characterful four-storey Victorian building, with its ground floor restaurant, occupies an ideal corner position with most of the upper rooms boasting sea and/or harbour views.
As a family-run business I found it very welcoming. The public areas are tastefully decorated with a suitably marine theme and my spacious single room clean, comfortable and equally tasteful. I was particularly impressed by having a bath and the Radox was a nice touch, especially since I'd been travelling for the previous two days.
I don't normally have dinner in hotel restaurants but I couldn't resist the temptation of the fish pie on the menu and the freebie starter for hotel guests eating early made it irresistible. So dinner was thoroughly enjoyed (write-up under restaurants) and breakfast the following morning was well worth getting up for - and the timing perfect for catching the Oldenburg.
The only moan is that the advertised Wi-Fi just didn't happen, which I didn't discover until I'd gotten back late-ish from the pub.
Apart from that 10 out of 10 all round.
Directions: On the corner facing the harbour access, leading to Verity and the Oldenburg's berth.
