A Real Devon Gem

“A foodie treat”. “Absolutely lovely”. “Rural idyll”.

So say some recent visitors to Sampson’s Farm in Newton Abbot; high praise indeed for this uniquely charming Devon hotel that could just as easily be described as a country inn, guest house, b&b, a hotel with a restaurant or even a farm hotel. Whichever description you prefer, this real Devon gem is a shining example of true English country hospitality to be savoured and enjoyed time after time.
Conveniently situated in the beautiful South Devon countryside, all the ingredients for a perfect holiday in Devon are on your doorstep. Choose from thatched villages, wonderful countryside, a breathtaking coastline, sandy beaches, a wide range of family attractions and marvellous walking country. The beautiful River Teign, rich with wildlife, is just one minute's stroll away; meandering quietly through the lush meadows with views of Dartmoor in the distance, the river is home to Sand Martins, Herons, Kingfishers and Trout. Vibrant Torquay with its chic hotels, restaurants and yachting marina on the English Riviera is also nearby and easily accessible by car, as are Paignton, Brixham, where William of Orange first landed to become King of England, and the historic port of Plymouth.
As holiday accommodation goes, this delightful fifteen room getaway has all the modern amenities you would expect, including free wi-fi access and an award winning restaurant serving a mouth-watering array of freshly prepared dishes using the finest locally sourced ingredients, some of which come directly from the Sampson gardens. Popular with business travellers and families alike, there are some unique opportunities on offer, not least of which are the art courses and special breaks organised and run by Sarah Bell, the renowned professional artist and illustrator. If you have always wanted to be able to draw and paint, there are few better teachers than Sarah, but be quick, her workshops fill up quickly!
There are many UK hotels that justly deserve the praise they receive and Sampsons Farm is certainly one of them. However, few can rival that unbeatable combination of outstanding hospitality, first class comfort and unparalleled natural beauty. When you next visit Devon, hunt out this picturesque haven of tranquillity, www.sampsonsfarm.com, unless, of course, you’re coming back for more…and who could blame you?

Whether it’s for an art break, business trip, or longer stay, Sampson’s Farm is the perfect destination…in fact, Devon has never offered better.

As I said in my intro, Newton is my nearest proper town. I arrive with my shopping list, most of which can be picked up at the indoor market, quick whizz round, and then visit East Street. The following pics will explain!
