Travel Tips for Plymouth

National Firework Competition

by freya_heaven

Every year the very impressive National Firework Competition is held at Mount Batten in Plymouth. The competition is held over two nights in August, the dates for 2005 are 16th and 17th of August. Six of the best British companies (3 each night) put on their best displays and suprisingly they were very different in style.

2004 was the first year we attended this spectacular event, we watched the fireworks sat on the cliffside at Jennycliff, this seemed to be a very popular viewing point. An excellent free night out!

Rock, Rock, Rock

by yozza2005 about Voodoo Lounge.

Voodoo Lounge:

Located near the University and Art College.
Music genres covered: progressive rock, punk, ska, rock, alternative, acoustic, metal.

This is a fine place to grab a beer, and sit back with some friends and have some good music in the background (not too loud).
Beers on sale include; Tribute, Guinness, Fosters, Carling.

No entry charge.

Live music most nights on the floor above (small entry charge and drink discounts at upstairs bar)

Good vibe.

Drake Circus

by Goner

Drake Circus is the West Country's most popular shopping centre. Here, you'll find many of the UK's top brand names and the biggest stores in the region all, however it caters mainly to women (why not??)

It was a great place to take refuge from the wind on the day we visited.*

Lanyon Quoit

by Pierre_Rouss

The Chûn Quoit site was examined in 1871 but no significant finds were made. In the same vicinity of Chûn Quoit there are many other megalithic and archaeological sites as Lanyon Quoit, Mên-an-Tol and Mên Scryfa.
The weird rocky outline of Carn Kenidjack marks the position of midwinter sunset away to the south-west.

Actually this is about Exeter

by Miffy

Outrageous! As if you'd come all the way to Plymouth and not go to Exeter! But there's nowhere for me to put my Exeter stuff so it'll have to be here...watch this space for further photos and lots and lots of info ASAP. I lived in Exeter from when I was born until 1987, and my parents are still there. It's a great place to grow up, and a rewarding place to visit. I hope I can show you some of the things the average tourist would miss, and a new side to the attractions on every visitor's list.
The image above is a close-up of a mosaic in Exeter - read on for further details...
