One of Devon's finest

This is where the company for which I work goes for its Christmas Dinners or other functions that need a touch of gravitas.
We were met by our hostess by our car. Not sure if this is protocol or if they were merely appalled by the thought of that much mobile mud parked outside. We were shown to our private reception where we all tried to make small talk and pretend we hadn't already spent most of the day together in the office. A very cheery fire helped set the scene as we battled our way through the champagne.

Food: after a parsnip soup appetiser, I had an excellent goats' cheese affair followed by some equally excellent venison. The dessert of Creme Brulee was a little disappointing and the texture suggested that it had been made using arrowroot instead of the traditional baked custard. On the whole there seemed to be an over-reliance on berry coulis with each course and they weren't always in total harmony with the dish as a whole.
After the coffees we were served with some wonderful home-made petit fours - Baileys Truffles, passion fruit shortbreads and lemon curd shells with fresh strawberry. Faultless.

The service was as good as could be expected given that half of our team know most of the staff and were barracking them mercilessly. Grace under fire is the phrase that springs to mind.

On the whole very very good.

ELEGANT!

We attended a beautiful wedding held at The Horn of Plenty near Tavistock. I can't think of a more lovely setting, and the food was also wonderful. Luckily, it was a sunny, warm day!
