More about The Somerville Hotel

Happy Times

by TripAdvisor Member Chelsx

We stayed here for the second time in July and are going back again come Dec for our pre-christmas de-stress long weekend. We found them last year and feel like it is our safe place when we need to get out of London for a while.

The service is second to none...The rooms are lovely and always ready on time even though last time we arrived well before we were expected.

The food is great, and my partner is particularly fussy. On a rainy day the gentlemen were happy to entertain us and give us advice on what to see and where to eat...

We can't wait for our Dec break, and highly recommend staying there just get away from it all!

Thank you for saving our sanity!

Fantastic Place

by TripAdvisor Member Maccaroons

This is an excellent place to stay. The greeting from the owner was most friendly and he made us feel very welcome. The room we had was decorated to a very high standard and even though the hotel is situated on the main road out of Torquay it was very quiet, and we were never aware of any traffic noise.
The fresh milk and cookies for the guests are a fabulous touch.
The breakfasts are excellent and freshly cooked, and the service was good.
It is less than a 10 minute walk to the town/harbour area, and they have car parking at the rear of the hotel.
We will definitely be saying at this hotel again.

Fantastic hotel

by TripAdvisor Member CAZ7999

We stayed for 2 nights to celebrate my partner's birthday. We were treated to a fantastic welcome and both Adam and Grant couldn't do enough to make sure we had a lovely stay. The courtyard suite where we stayed was beautifully decorated, the facilities top notch and little touches like extra milk and fresh cookies available to guests were very thoughtful. Just a shame the rain stopped us enjoying the courtyard itself! Very handy for Torquay town and harbour too, just a comfortable walk down the road. We are recommending The Somerville to everyone we know.

Can't wait to return!

by TripAdvisor Member debbiehWiltshire

This hotel is a wonderful getaway. we had a deluxe room that was spotlessly clean, comfortable and quiet. Adam & Grant made us welcome from the minute we walked through the door and their attention to detail is exceptional. We will definitely be returning and we will recommend it to all of our friends!

A real gem

by TripAdvisor Member Jante069

This hotel is situated on a hill just above central Torquay. The exterior of this hotel/B & B does not prepare you for the sumptuous interior. The owners have paid wonderful attention to detail. The room was on the small side but beautifully presented and the bathroom was modern and pristine. Homemade cookies greeted us upon arrival, with access to fresh milk for tea, coffee etc (all Fairtrade) The breakfast was fantastic.

A truly welcome break

by TripAdvisor Member davlor14

On arrival at the hotel, we received a friendly welcome and a tour of the facilites. Our king sized room was superbly furnished and immaculately clean. The en-suite/shower room was large and newly decorated. There was a pleasant relaxed atmosphere at the hotel which made our stay hugely enjoyable. Although the hotel was full we didn't hear any noise from other guests whilst in our room. There was a flat screen TV and the free Wifi access, which was an excellent touch, worked throughout our stay. The food variety and service at breakfast was first class, with a range of fruit, cereal etc and hot food cooked to order. Fresh cookies and milk were available daily. The hotel exterior is currently undergoing renovation work, however this did not disrupt our stay in any way at all. The hotel was central and only 5-10 minutes walk from the town centre and harbour and has a car park to accomodate all guests vehicles.

We would certainly stay at this hotel again and would recommend the quality of the service and attention to detail which beats a chain hotel everytime.

Excellent hotel, very good personal service

by TripAdvisor Member Scotswhahae

Stayed a week in Torquay and this was the perfect base to visit Devon and Cornwall. The owners look after their guests very well. A must stay if you are travelling around Devon.

A truly wonderful experience

This hotel is a hidden gem.
It looks very nice from the outside but it's when you step inside that you'll be amazed.
The furnishings are wonderful, the staff are brilliant and the owners really go out of their way to make sure you enjoy your stay.
We will definitely recommend this hotel and hopefully stay there again in the future.

Best place to stay in Torquay!

by TripAdvisor Member jps8017

Looked at the previous reviews and was not disappointed! Food was first class including a great choice at breakfast and the cookies which were delicious.
Stayed in The Somerville Suite (room 7) with the most comfortable bed, luxurious furnishings and a great bathroom.
Ideally suited for all trips into Torquay as it is literally just down the road!
Eco-friendly with a wormery for all waste food.
Proprietors very friendly and helpful and we will certainly be making a return visit!

Excellent B&B

by TripAdvisor Member VillanOfBrum

Had a short break at the Somerville last week, superb B&B - the 5 star is well worth it.
As others have pointed out this is a B&B but the service and whole atmosphere of the place is a lot better than many of the hotels I have stayed in world wide

The guys who run the place could not be more friendly and gave great advice on places to eat and visit.

The breakfast was very good and the location of the Somerville was perfect
