More about Avalon Beach Hotel
Avalon - magic
My husband and I stayed at the Avalon Beach Hotel for two nights over Easter and thoroughly enjoyed it. Paul and Patricia the owners are great hosts, very welcoming and couldn't have done more for us. The hotel and all rooms are spotlessly clean, extremely comfortable, tastefully decorated and furnished to a high standard. We were travelling with our daughter and 22 month old grandaughter and had booked Hector a self contained apartment which had a double bedroom with ensuite bath/shower, separate sitting/dining area with double sofa bed and room for travel cot enabling us to all stay together. Hector also has a fully equipped kitchen and its own private deck area, a fantastic additional space and brilliant for small children. The hotel is very family friendly, they seem to have thought of everything and even offer a beach hut for hire.
Meals are excellent. At breakfast they offer a choice of juices, cereals, fresh fruits and home made scones as well as a hot selection. The cooked breakfast is great, an english / irish hybrid and you will understand why when you visit, We ate at the hotel both evenings - the first night we were going to make do with a takeaway but Paul wouldn't hear of it and Patricia sent over home cooked lasagne with a selection of salads and garlic bread - everything was delicious. We had no hesitation in booking to eat in the dining room on our second evening and were not disappointed - it was superb. Meals are freshly prepared and of a very high quality.
We found the location ideal - a few minutes walk to the end of the road and the beautiful sandy beaches of Southbourne which stretch around the bay to Boscombe, Bournemouth and Sandbanks in one direction with Hengistbury Head and views of the Isle of Wight in the other. Mudeford Quay for those youngsters who love to get busy with their crab lines, Christchurch and the New Forest are all only a short drive away.
We are already planning a second visit and would definitely recommend Avalon Beach Hotel and Apartments to family, friends and anyone visiting the area.
We will definately be visiting the Avalon Beach Hotel again! We had an absolutly pleasent stay. The whole hotel throughout is decorated beautifully, it has a comfortable, clean, homely, chilled vibe.
My boyfriend and I stayed in the bedroom Guinevere, it was clean and comfortable with a plasma tv. The ensuite had a good sized powerful shower.
The lounge has comfortable furniture plus a mac which we used to search for restaurants/bars to check out during our stay.
The dining room, again v comfortable. There was a choice of cereals/fruit/yogurt etc or you can choose something cooked. We had the cooked breakfast which was yummy!
Patricia one of the owners was really friendly and recommended really good restaurants and places to go for walks by the coast.
If you want to stay somewhere clean and comfortable and with all the comforts of home but yet you don't want to stay in a hotel that belongs to a large chain where you're pretty anonymous once you've booked in, then book yourself a stay at The Avalon Beach Hotel in Southbourne. What a gem, what a find. My husband and I only stayed for 1 night as we were on a flying visit to the area from Aberdeen, but we knew straight away that we'd chosen well. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome - our every wish was Paul and Patricia's command - nothing was too much for them. Our bedroom was bright clean and spacious with a comfortable sofa for watching the flat screen TV and a bathroom with large walk in shower. After a late night partying we returned to the hotel and sank into their wonderfully comfortable bed which had pillows that were just right. In the morning breakfast was not a disappointment - what a great choice, cereals, fresh fruit salads, banana bread etc - and that was just to wet our appetites! The choice from the menu was extensive, I chose the cooked breakfast but my husband chose Eggs Benedict, everything was freshly cooked and tasted wonderful - Mmmm. The hotel is situated a stones throw away from the beach at Southbourne. Fantastic views and lovely soft sands. Unfortunately February is not the month for making sand castles, but the lovely fresh sea breeze sure managed to blow away the cobwebs from the festivities of the previous night. Our hosts Paul and Patricia will shortly be extending what is already a great establishment - as well as the hotel rooms they will have apartments - fantastic idea. More choice for those that will be flocking to their doors in order to book a stay. We have no doubt that this venture will be a success and that they will go from strength to strength. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is visiting the area.

Style and service in a family-friendly environment
Not surprised that the Avalon Beach Hotel is so well reviewed - it is fantastic.
We stayed for 3 nights just after the Easter weekend in "Hector" (one of the newly-opened suites in the Apart Hotel section). As well as being beautifully decorated and fully equipped with a kitchenette and washing machine, it was a perfect set up for us as a family with a toddler. Our 16 month old baby slept in the travel cot (provided by the hotel) in the sitting room which meant mum and dad had a bedroom to ourselves.
We completely agree with previous comments about the food - it is delicious and extremely good value. We ate in the dining room every night and were not disappointed or bored with the choices on any occasion. Our daughter also loved the special toddler meals that Patricia cooked for her each evening.
Before having our daughter, my partner and I were devotees of "Mr and Mrs Smith" style boutique hotels. What a pleasure to find that now we are parents we can enjoy staying somewhere that offers both style and service in a welcoming, baby-friendly setting. We will definitely return.....
Paul and Patricia are a lovely couple and made us feel very welcome. The food was fantastic, decor and the rooms were beautiful as well as being very clean. The House white was lovely and the location of the hotel is brilliant for the beach.
We look forward to coming back to try the lemon ice cream.
Thanks for a lovely weekend
A chic boutique by the beach...
I had three nights here with my two daughters of 15 and 12 whilst visiting family in the area. The hosts, Paul and Patricia, gave us a warm welcome and made us feel at home. The room the girls and I shared was tastefully decorated and innovatively designed to accommodate up to six people - we were very comfortable as a three. Lying in bed with the window open I could just hear the surf on the beach and little else, perfect. Beds, pillows, duvets and crisp white linen were of the highest quality and would match an expensive boutique hotel in the capital but without the price tag. A large walk-in power shower was a welcome luxury. The girls appreciated the 'Mac' in the sitting room and the flat screen TVs. The WiFi worked in our room at the top of the house.
Breakfast was delicious and set us up for the day. We didn't eat evening meals in the hotel as we had made family arrangements.
Next door to this hotel is an Apart Hotel that the owners are opening in the next few weeks. We were lucky enough to see some of the rooms and I look forward to returning and staying in one of these. Very luxurious!
Family friendly hotel
My wife and I have just returned from an Easter break at Hotel Avalon and it really is as good as the comments on trip advisor suggest. We have a 6 month old and a 2 year old and were made to feel extremely welcome by Paul & Patricia.
The Hotel is clean, comfortable, tastefully decorated and in a great location just a few minutes walk from the beach. The food in the hotel was excellent - we had dinner for 3 nights out of 4 and there was a good selection to choose from. Paul is a great host and Patricia a fantastic cook. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.
Great Hotel with excellent food
We stayed with some friends over the Easter weekend for 3 nights. My partner and I stayed in Gareth, and our friends were in Uther both of which are in the newly opened "Avalon Beach Apart" side - in a separate house with more apartment style accommodation than the main hotel building. Of the two rooms, Gareth was smaller, with one room, a small kitchenette (in the main room), a small table to eat at, and one comfy chair, and a small shower room. Uther is really a suite, as it has a separate lounge, with sofabed, larger kitchen, dining table with four chairs, and then a separate bedroom and shower room.
We were scheduled to arrive late and so we rang before we set off and booked in to eat that evening, and Patricia read the choices out over the phone so that we could make our selections. We had two courses for £16 (three courses is £19). The dining area has about 5 tables in it, but it is not overcrowded and you can have a nice meal. The food was so nice, that we ended up eating in the hotel every night!
Breakfast is excellent and is available until 10am on weekends, and so we took advantage of our very comfortable bed and didn't get up until late!
Despite the abysmal weather over the Easter weekend, we managed to have a really nice weekend in Bournemouth and around the area. The hospitality from the hotel owners is great and we were very comfortable and well looked after for our weekend. We would definitely recommend anyone to stay here.
Birthday Visit!! (looking for a touch of class!)
Right, Where to start....how about a summary of words from our expeience.....
Friendly, professional, personal, sophisticated.
Now on to some finer points for this visit.....
about 100 yards down the road is one of the most attratcive and largest beaches we have seen. We would guess its about two miles long. The hotel is situtated on a quite road and about five minutes in a taxi from the town
The hotel we were told is only 12months old and it shows. This a very modern hotel decorated to the highest of standards. Fountain fall taps, modern oak furniture, and soft shut toilet seats. hand made rope knots in the lounge to hold the doors open and fresh linen. We could not have asked for more and took ideas back for our own home. We can recommend the Tristram suite!
As an ex chef and a father who is a high ranking chef we did not expect much for £20 for three courses....how wrong we were...organic, fress, every single thing home made and cooked perfectly....we ordered lamb steaks medium and they came medium....what a rarity!!
For starters we had greek salad and goats cheese tartlet...both superb...mains were salem and lamb and for dessert fruit and yoghurt and the most mind blowing sticky toffee pud with hazelnut icecream...lovely...
breakfast is also home cooked and dont miss out on the fresh black and white puddings...its perfect...theres also salmon, eggs benedict, cereals (orgamnic), fresh poridge the lot!
finally, one of are party was a celiac...this was no issue in any form and highlighting this prior to arrival meant they adapted the menu to meet our needs...vegetarian was also no problem.
our advice on food is do not waste loads of cash going to a fancy restaurant that rips your arms and legs of when it comes to paying the bill. The food and wine here will outdo the majority of food chain restautrants and hotels and give the 3 rosette al a carte restaurants a run for their money....
(please bear in mind though seasoning is done by you and salt does not feature highly on the menu) With the high quality ingredients being used this was no way a problem!)
The two owners could not be nicer...although there were 10 other guests they managed to make us feel like the hotel was ours alone. Taken to the lounge on arrival with fresh tea and coffee and champagne in our room on request. These are genuine people who are concerned with providing a good service with no arrogance or snobbery. Somehow they manage to supply the classy feel you get from the 5 star hotels with none of the pomp and ceromopny that goes with it...perfect.
Pay a bit extra and treat yourself. Rooms are around £100 bed and breakfast but well worth it...we will return! Splash out and have dinner at least once...i bet you go back...
finally, we never complete reviews cause we can never be bothered! This place was very good and changed our ways....hence this review.
p.s if you get a chance try the landmarc theatre...we went to an 80's tribute night and it was great fun!!
Boutique Hotel at it's best...
I was running in the Bournemouth Bay Half Marathon and so we wanted a place close to Bournemouth and what a find Avalon Hotel was. The hotel is on a quiet street, only a couple hundred metres from the walkway to the beach. The beach stretches miles in either direction and provides a great location for walks or just sitting and watching the waves rolling in, it certainly provided a great backdrop for the half marathon! The rooms were only renovated a couple years ago and are wonderfully light with wooden shutters that create a seaside feel. The bed was very comfortable and the flat screen tv was a nice touch. We also had dinner at the hotel and the cooking was very accomplished and great value. The hotel also has a very good wine list and stocks some good local ales. In all, it was a wonderful stay and if ever we're in the area again will definitely be staying with Paul & Patricia at Avalon House, fantastic hosts!
