Tales from a weary traveller

I found that no detail was too much trouble and the staff were pleasant and helpful. The restaurant was certainly a fine experience with imaginative menus and good service. One can' t complain about the room either. I'll go again.

Avoid The Lodge (Room 205)!
by TripAdvisor Member JandJBedfordshire
We paid £220 for 3nts in a double room at the end of October and expected a reasonable room for this. In actuality we found ourselves in room 205 on the 3rd floor of The Lodge (an adjacent building to the main hotel). In our view, this 'room' was:-
-Too small to be sold with an ensuite which would have a contortionist struggling to get to and use the toilet (Sorry for the graphic account -but once in position ones chin was on the sink!) The shower door was a concertina affair and would not remain wholely across the enclosure. There was not enough space to dry oneself in the ensuite...that had to be done in the bedroom (in front of ones partner!) Whilst getting dressed, my partner hit his hand on the ceiling it was so low!
There was a single wardobe with hanging space, but no usable drawers so folded clothing had to be placed on the (deep) window cill.
Inevitably we complained and were placed in a larger room (at 'no extra charge' for the 2nd night -WOW!) and told that we'd have to return to the original room for trhe 3rd night...We would have checked out but they found us a reasonably sized twin room (but tired, 70's decor/furniture) for 3rd night.
So, 3 different rooms over the course of a 3 night stay -One dire, one rather grim and one ok -for £220.
The hotel management has an absolute cheek placing anyone in room 235 in The Lodge -and to charge £73.50 a night is really disgraceful.
(By the way, we have only felt the need to write positive reviews previously!)

Enjoyable stay

Stayed for 2 nights at the end of November and really enjoyed our stay. Great location within walking distance of shops and beach and only a few minutes drive to the BIC.
There was refurbishment going on in nearby rooms but we wouldn't have known if it wasn't for the open doors of the rooms being decorated and the smell of paint in the corridor.
Our room was a family room with a double bed and single bed for our daughter. My daughter said it was the most comfortable hotel bed she had slept in and slept very well both nights.
The room was clean and although not large was totally adequate for the 3 of us.
The breakfast was good with a number of juices, cereals, fruits, various cooked items and pastries to choose from. The one minor issue was that on the Saturday morning the restaraunt was really busy and the staff were struggling to find places for all guests. There were quite a few guests who had a short wait for a table and also quite a bit of table shuffling by the staff. The cooked items also ran out at regular intervals but it didn't take too long for new supplies to arrive. The staff were rushed off their feet but were still smiling and pleasant. Obviously if this is to be avoided don't go to breakfast at peak time as we did.
We used the swimming pool which was lovely, the temperature of the water was spot on. The Jaccuzi was also good. The bar and lounge areas were also very comfortable and we enjoyed a drink here on both days.
We didn't eat in the restaraunt in the evenings even though the menu looked varied enough and reasonably priced.
All in all it was an excellent stay in a pleasant hotel which I would say was value for money.
Good Hotel for the price

We stayed at this hotel for one night and was pleasantly suprised after reading some of the reviews. Our recommendation is to ensure you stay in the hotel and not the Lodge next door as all the facilities are in the main Hotel. We booked a Standard Double room which we thought was a little small to be called a "double". We would suggest a Superior room for the extra charge.
The Hotel and our room was very clean, and everything worked well in the bathroom. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice and helpfull staff.
The public areas were comfortable and the indoor pool looked most inviting, although we did not bathe.
We would certainly return to this hotel for a short visit again.
good location for night out in Bournemouth
by TripAdvisor Member adnil68
Had a night out in Bournemouth for my 40th birthday with a few friends, so chose this hotel for its location and the fact that it had plenty of free parking. Booked three rooms in total. Reasonable price for one night B&B. My friends had larger rooms than me and my husband but wasn't a problem as we were only there to sleep, but I thought that was wierd considering that I did the booking in my name. Rooms were clean and had everything needed to get ready to out, hairdryer, shower gel, shampoo etc. They even had a sewing kit which for the first time ever came in useful as I had to put a tack in my dress... I have never had the need to use one before at a hotel, so good for the Connaught! Bathrooms were clean but tired decor, could do with being modernised, but all taps etc. worked and plenty of hot water. Didn't have time to use any part of the leisure club, so can't comment. Breakfast was great. plenty to choose from and plenty of it. Very helpful staff throughout whole hotel, especially the night porter who got us drinks at 2.30am. Thanks!
