More about Marsham Court Hotel

Lovely views, fantastic hotel

by TripAdvisor Member princess033

We have just returned from the Marsham Court Hotel. I cannot praise the hotel staff enough, we had a lovely room with views across the bay and dinner each night was excellent. Would highly recommend

Lovely hotel, friendly staff.

by TripAdvisor Member Ellie_Belle

Have just returned from an overnight stay at the Marsham Court Hotel with my hubby, 12 year old, 2 year old and 11 month old. What a fab time we had!
The room was clean and spacious with a large balcony overlooking Bournemouth Pier. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and despite a wedding being held there the same night we heard no noise or disruption at all (except for the drunk, dissorientated naked lady in reception at 6.30am!!!!)

We will definately be going back!

Old world charm with a modern twist

by TripAdvisor Member IRSO_SEC

The Marsham Court Hotel was the setting for the 2007 National Institute of Road Safety Officers annual conference. A fantastic time was had by all - the staff were friendly, helpful and pleasant, the venue comfortable and ideal for the event.

Every one of our delegates rated the hotel at 4 or 5 out of 5 for comfort and quality and I would thoroughly recommend anyone to stay here. Rooms have been recently refurbished, there is a wonderful "family" atmosphere throughout and the setting is unmatched - the views across Christchuch Bay are outstanding.

disappointed!

by TripAdvisor Member l4wk

When you enter the hotel you are far from disappointed! The reception area decor is lovely. The staff were okay but nothing special. We booked a superior room because it was my birthday and I wanted to do something really special. When we got into the room we were extremely disappointed. The decor was very plain and boring and needed a refurb! We tried to order a movie to watch that night as well because I wasnt very well and didnt really want to go to the town. We rang down and they told us to go downstairs and pay for it before they put it on for us. We went and paid and it didnt work so we rang down just to let them know. We had to tell them 3 times before they finally told us that the movies were not working that night and we had to go back downstairs to get our money. We also tried getting a drink from the bar but there was no 1 in sight to serve us at all. We told the reception but they still didnt do anything about it! We had to go to the local cinema to get a drink because at this time all the shops were closed! We didnt want to complain and make a fuss because I know what its like to be a recptionist because I work as 1 in a hotel in Bournemouth. I dont think I would stay there again......was way too expensive!

Annoyed

by TripAdvisor Member broseley

Whilst visiting last year I decided to stay at this hotel for a few days. First impressions were not terribly good but i reminded myself that beauty is on the inside. looking back now, I should never of entred the building as the hotel and staff could do with a clean, and a makeover. I must admit that i was confussed as to why the fire alarms repeatedly rang during the night for no reason i.e. no fire, and after the second alarm that night i felt i was being a good sport by preparing for the next evacuation, with my coat and shoes already on to save time. It was the worst weekend of my life and do not recommend this rammy old fashioned hotel. Staff were ok but the management were useless. Needless to say I will not be visiting again.

Dissapointing

by TripAdvisor Member kibby2002

Position on a slight hill above Bournemouth with access to clifftop walk and not far from centre.

Staff not very friendly or helpful.
Room OK , tired and dated, minor maintenance items not attended to.

Breakfast was buffet style, quite good but items kept running out.
and a bit cold.
Evening meal reasonable choice and service OK but nothing special. Staff tried hard to keep up.

Reasonable cleanliness.

In all nothing stands out and no friendly welcome or polite goodbyes on booking out. Public areas a bit run down.
Will offer deal on room rates if slack out of season.

Dreary, dated, over priced

by TripAdvisor Member UKOliver

Let's start with the one good point. We had a large room with a great sea view.

If you crave 1950s furniture with handles missing on drawers,
nothing matching, and all looking very tired, you might like your room. If you like fresh air in your room, you are going to be disapointed if you get the same room as us; all but one window was sealed.

Our bed had such a dip in the middle we each went to sleep with one hand gripping our respective side of the bed.

The whole hotel was about as dated (badly so) as you might fear.
It look's like no money has been spent on it since the 1950s.

The only food we (nearly) had there was breakfast. The hotel calls it a 'buffet'. I travel a lot and have never seen such a dreadful one; sloppy scrambled eggs, baked beans swimming in something reddish, and the overall presentation of what was offered, was rather less than unappealing.

All of which begs the question: when did the AA last visit to check on the 3* rating it appears to give this hotel?

It's never worth the money they charge or the AA rating it claims.

Good value, Large family room.

by TripAdvisor Member MarkOfLeicester

It's hard to come by hotels with decent sized family rooms but this is one. The room was plenty big enough for the 4 of us (incl a teen and a 10 y.o.). Heating was on too high but with the windows open this wasn't a problem. Rooms were clean but the counterpains to the matresses weren't. Room was quiet. Staff were almost exclusively foreigh (as is almost everyone in Bournemouth) and were very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was standard English and fine. Other reviewers are right that the place needs a lick of paint. Hotel is very well located but the car park is hidden away.

The only reason I wouldn't go back is because of Bournemouth itself which is a bit dreary and kids under 14 aren't allowed in the tiny number of pubs (I counted 4 ). Nice beach though.

Absolutely brilliant!

what a fantastic hotel. The best in Bournemouth. The staff are freindly, helpful and accomidating. Thank you for making my trip to Bournemouth the better than wished for!

if you are looking to book in Bournemouth - look no further

Good but could be better.

by TripAdvisor Member MikefromCambs

Good location. From front of hotel five minutes walk down steepish hill to pier, beach, theatre and cinema. Large car park and good public rooms and restaurant. Good staff apart from Reception.
On the minus side - Reception staff unfriendly/disinterested, some redecoration required, front of hotel not accessible (steps and no ramp or lift) so for any one wheelchair bound - would require long detour to the rear of the hotel.
