Travel Tips for Bournemouth

Lower Gardens in Bournemouth

by LouiseTopp

Just down from the seafront is a park with a stream running through it called Lower gardens. There's a bandstand here which plays show's on summer Sunday afternoon's. Lot's of people sit here in deck chairs in good weather, & you can occasionally see grey squirrels. I have already mentioned the Bournemouth Eye in one of my earlier report's. There's a mini golf area here, where you can also play table tennis.

There's an art gallery by a bird aviery. Some of the painting's are really good, they show the Hampshire & Dorset scenary & all are for sale. There's many decorative flower beds in Lower Gardens. Until the early 1800's the Bournemouth area was heathland, with a warren of pathways & streams, the only known inhabitants were cows & maybe a few gypsies (like me).

Bournemouth in a nutshell

by Sheffy

Bournemouth, situated on the sunshine southern coast of England, boasts 15 kilometres of sandy beaches, and extensive floral gardens. It is a popular seaside resort with a mild climate even in winter and is ideal for the overseas student. Thousands of students and business people come here every year to learn English. With a population of 150,000, plus nearly two million people taking their holiday in Bournemouth, and a further two million visiting on day trips, it has become very cosmopolitan creating a lively and friendly atmosphere in which to study. Bournemouth also has many large department stores, and a whole range of shops, boutiques and so on.

The Bournemouth area is the British home of many large financial institutions (Chase Manhattan Bank, American Express, Zurich International). Bournemouth has two of the most popular local radio stations and a popular football team; its own famous Symphony Orchestra (BSO); and is an excellent centre for shopping. It is a well known international venue for many sports such as snooker, tennis, bowls. It is also the venue for political conferences.

The variety of nightlife offers entertainment for all age groups: restaurants, nightclubs, hotels, shows, concerts, cinemas, and local English pubs. Ideally situated for day trip excursions and within two hours of London and all international airports, road and rail links, Bournemouth provides everything to make your stay enjoyable.

Bournemouth offers a wide range of sporting facilities including flying lessons, swimming, golf, aerobics and fitness training gymnasiums, tennis courts etc. You can hire a bicycle; go horse riding in the New Forest; and both river and sea fishing trips are available.
