Well-located B&B

We spent a couple of nights in this small bed & breakfast, which, although not fancy, was more than adequate for our needs. Its plusses include a good location on a quiet road only five minutes’ walk from the centre of the village, and a large, bright room (the “South Room”) with a view of the pretty garden and hills beyond, well-appointed with a TV, hair-dryer, tea and coffee-making facilities etc. On the minus side, I expected a better breakfast for its four star rating – we were offered a selection of uninspiring cereals, orange juice and a choice of cooked full English or scrambled eggs on toast. On the first morning there was also a slice of melon each, but otherwise no fruit, no choice of juice and no other special touches. Our shower was also a bit feeble, with a door that stuck, and the only toiletries provided were little bottles of shower gel and a few cotton balls – no soap, no shampoo, no lotions. Towels were on the small side too.

Nevertheless, Westaway offers reasonable value and a very convenient location, so on the whole I would recommend it – just take your own smellies!
