Poole Harbour-2nd largest harbour in the world!
"Poole Quay"
The largest Island within Poole Harbour is the heavily wooded Brownsea Island which can be seen in the background. For many years it was owned by a Mrs Christie who preserved it's natural charm. The island has the native red squirrell living here and it was here in 1907 that Lord Baden Powell founded the now famous international then Boy Scout Movement. Mrs Christie would not let even the Scout movement celebrate their 50th Annivesary here in 1957 such was her concern about privacy, fire and safety. It is now owned by the National Trust.
"Poole Guildhall"
Situated in the old quarter of this ancient town the Guildhall has many pubs nearby. The Guildhall Tavern, The Crown, The Antelope to name but 3!
"D-Day 6th June 1944"
The largest liberation Armarda the world has ever seen or ever likely to see again was launched in 1944 to help de-nazi the mainland Europe. Flying boats flew regularly from here to the Far East, Africa and North America. The planes landed on water on what were called Trots. Near Swanage the sea was 'set afire' during Word War11 to defer invasion!
