Gatwick Taxi Fare

by Gillybob

Can anyone give me an approximate taxi fare for the trip London Gatwick to Brighton seafront?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Gatwick Taxi Fare

The 22 miles journey would cost 50UKP by a taxi.

You also have the option of taking the train, at a fraction of the cost!!

There are 2 tarrifs:

Ouch! and Help I've been mugged!

I'd always take the train for that journey.

If you really would prefer a cab I use a local firm called Road Runners (01737 760076) and they are good. The cabs at the airport are pretty pricey and have a high mileage rate, but this lot always have cars in the area to pick up from Gatwick. Same rate 24hrs a day.

Checker Cars have the franchise from Gatwick airport. Checker with them?

Yeah, since you mentioned 'taxi' I qouted for such. Only they have a licence to pick up 'walk-up' customers.

Otherwise, you can always call a private licensed mini-cab, they have more reasonable rates, eg 28 UKP to Brighton.

Thanks everyone - there's four of us so its likely a private hire taxi will work out a lot less than 4 train tickets.

Certainly makes a difference!

Hi!

You can book a taxi between Brighton and Gatwick Airport for £34 with Lewes taxis.

Their phone number is 01273 656565.

Thats one of the best deals you will get, as if u get in an airport taxi etc they will charge you £50/60 or something.

Travel Tips for Brighton

Brighton & Hove

by Gili_S

So just to be very clear here, Brighton is not all alone, it is actually two towns that joint together, Brighton & Hove, obviously I had to visit here to realise that, and so it is. Brighton & Hove.

Try the Sunday market. It's a big car boot sale in the carpark behind Brighton station (go through the station to find it) every Sunday morning. Get there early (pre 9 am ) for real bargains, and go for the private sellers rather than the dealers.

If you're expecting a sandy beach you're in for a surprise. This is a pebbly beach so take a chair to sit in, a towel on the beach isn't as comfortable. The water's cold but I know I was in it as a tot, so it can't be too bad!

Devil's Dyke

by iguana23

This is not exactly 'off the beaten track', but it is out of town.
Devil's Dyke is a well known local beauty spot. Legend has it that the Devil, angry at the local population, tried to drive a river through the area to flood it, but he was stopped in his tracks here.
It's a great place to go on a Sunday morning, walk a little on the Downs and watch the paragliders.
You can take a bus from the station or the pier- open-topped buses run in Summer and normal buses on winter weekends.

Battle Abbey

by hayward68

Wander amongst the ruins of this old Benedictine Abbey which was built to commemorate the Battle of Hastings, the battle which took the life of King Harold.
William I gave orders that the altar of this new abbey was to be placed over the spot where King Harold died. There's a marker supposedly showing this site.
The Abbey was consecrated in 1094 with William I present, along with Archbishop of Canterbury and several bishops.
These days Battle Abbey School sits on the grounds, incorporating some of the ruins in the school
