Visit the Brighton Pier. It's a bit hokey, but lots of fun just the same. Have some fish & chips, go on a few rides, and enjoy the salt air. On my first trip over, swimming in the ocean in late October. Man was that cold . . . and invigorating

And here is the North Laine from above. You can see what a maze it is - originally these were fishermen's cottages. Now, though pokey, it's some of the most sought-after housing in Brighton - right in the thick of things.
Packing List
by hayward68
This is the UK, so an umbrella is something you should always pack. Good, comfy walking shoes are a must, you'll be walking a lot here. We walked for miles and miles exploring all the castles and towns.
And it's by the water, so pack a warm sweater or cardigan for when the sun goes down. Sunscreen for those unexpected hot sunny days. Lots of film to get that perfect shot of the castles. A beach chair for that pebbly beach.
Bleak House
by Elodie_Caroline
We decided to go for a night out this night (12/7/03) to Brighton, but where it had been a scorching weekend so far, Brighton was absolutely full!
So, instead of looking for an elusive parking space along the sea front, we just continued driving eastwards along the Promenade. The new moon hanging over the sea looked beautiful and bright amongst the pale blue and pink evening sky. We then stopped in a place called 'Roedean Road' and I took a couple of photos of the scenery, and then I noticed this great big sandstone building to my left. It had a few lights spread around on it, but it looked like something from out of an old Bronte or Charles Dickens novel, it made me think straightaway of Bleak House. It looked foreboding and unhappy, just looking at it made me shiver. It could have been a Hotel, yes, it definitely looks like it could have been the haunted hotel in the film 'The shining.' But it was actually 'Roedean School.' The private school for girls, where Sarah Ferguson, ex-wife of prince Andrew, went.... Scary!
GOOD FOR THE SOLE!
by themajor about Vegetarian Shoes
There can't be many shoe shops that close their offices because they have to attend the Glastonbury Festival but this my friends is one of them. The owners have done such a grand job of making it's name so transparently obvious that the penalty for failing to guess what they sell should be death. Vegetarian Shoes. that's it. It does what it says on the (recycled) tin! established in 1990 as a shop offering hand made alternatives to leather, it now outsources the manufacturing and also deal worldwide by mail order. A large range of different shoe styles are kept in stock from hiking boots to sneakers - and as long as it's never mooed, they'll sell it!
Shop hours: 10 to 6 Monday To Saturday. 12 to 6 Wednesdays. Closed Sundays and Bank Holidays. Some sandals £30. Average shoe prices are around the £60 mark. Other styles higher again.
