Travel Tips for Basildon
Become a human sundial !
by sourbugger
The area outside the towngate theatre used to be a bit of an eyesore when I lived in the town - except for the day they put a large crane up and offered bungy jumps.
I was considering having a go until I saw their safety measure consisted of filling a bag with bricks equilvalent to the person who was to Bungee, who had just been weighed on a pair of bathroom scales - I gave that one a skip a bit sharpish.
The area has now been improved with trees, sculptures, paving and a bell tower (see other tip). My favourite little addition is the human sundial right outside the towngate theatre. If the sun is actually shining (a rare occurance) then you can stand in the centre and tell the time.

"Basildon is Basildon"
Why would anyone want to live in Basildon? I used to, but I'm better now. I still have friends there & I visit sometimes. Next time I go I will take a picture of the Mother & Child Fountain. There is little else there worth seeing!

A: "I know little of Depeche Mode, but I'm afraid I have some bad news for you. They 'began' in Basildon, Essex but Basildon House (which is indeed lovely) is in Basildon,..."
