Many location maps are wrong!

It was only due to local knowledge that we found this place, as most maps including Google, seem to have it located some further half mile east of where it really is!

A pleasent enough place for the price, especially for a short stay and is well within walking distance of the centre of Colchester and or the railway station, which less than five minutes walk away.

Car parking can be a challenge as the Premier Inn is really part of the Albert Pub on the roundabout at the top of Station Road. This in turn means that Fridays especially, people visiting the pub take up many of the spaces used by the Inn but there is additional spaces right at the rear of the property.

Naturally with a pub right alongside, Premier Inn do not have a bar or offer food but that really is no problem

Unique Quality: A low cost stay well within walking distance of the town in a clean and fairly modern building.

Although we paid around 69 Pounds. Premier inns often have sales on where at times the prices can go as low as 19 pounds per night.

Right next door to a Beefeater Restaurant

Premier Inns like the Albert Pub next door, are owned by Whitbread Plc as are, Beefeater, Table Table, Brewers Fayre, Taybarns and Costa Coffee

Or should you fancy something more spicy, then try Raj Palace just three minutes walk down N station Road towards town (see my restuarants)

Travel Tips for Colchester

Castle Park Gardens

by joanj

If you walk behind the castle and either down the path, or up on the grass slope, you can see the beautifully laid out gardens in the park.

The best view, and the views which I photographed, were from the grass mound behind the castle.

I have had to take 3/4 photographs as the layout is so wide you could not get it all in one frame. So the photographs are shown in order from left to right.

Colchester: Britain's First City

by Paolo-Italy

"Roman Colchester"

Colne Chester, the "castrum" of the Colne River... a magnificent town with a mixture of old building and fortifications and modern life...

"Pubs, Fun & Good People"

In my week in Colchester i've been in more than 20 pubs... Ha so great time! Frank and his friends showed me the best places in town, and sometimes i tried to make some photo of them with my telephone... Every pub has its own particularity and unicity... A great atmosphere in anyone; one night we did a "Pub Crowling", going from pub to pub having wonderful beers ;)

"Food"

Who says that england has no good food? I like, really like english food! The home one and the restaurant one too (especially those outside town, in the countryside)...

I even bought some food to take back in Italy (sausages, cheddar cheese, special beans, sauces...)

At Adam's house we used to have "breakfast" at 3 p.m. ;) and this was a classical dish my friends prepared for us...

Spent a year at the Uni here. Great place to get the small england town feel while still close enough to London to get some great travel deals.

The pubs in town are great with at least 6 on the main street. The main street shops cater to a bit of everything.

The time there was great.
